I am in the process of pricing out transmissions for a '72 Chevelle which will have a 454. It currently has a 350 with a 4-speed. I am thinking about a new tranny. I would like an automatic. Are there any websites that sell trannys and which one is a good one to buy? I know nothing about trannies and cannot tell you the difference between a turbo 350 or 400 or a muncie or whatever. Where can I find an explanation/definition of what these are? I am not into racing but a street car that can light 'em up once in a while.

I prefer a 400 turbo but a 350 turbo is also a good trans. It depends on how much power you are going to be running. If it was me I would go with a 400. A quality rebuild 400 will most likely be all that you need.

Sorry, where to find. You might try some local transmissions shops. There are also hipo rebuilds like arts, atc, b&m, rossler and many more. You might try a junk yard and have it rebuilt. eBay, local paper, trader and swap meets. Hope this helps
