I went to carlisle today and picked up a bulk box of nos ac pf25 oil filters. The strange thing is that they are different than the repops. The upper lip is shiny and not painted. They are white with the red logo with an embossed ac on the bottom of the filter. The filter is made in oshawa canada. The blue script is in english and french. I'm wondering if these filters are correct? |

Well, I've been buying these and supplying my friends in Syracuse for a couple of years now. They are the same color as the originals but do have french on part of it (Canadian bilinqualism). They are dirt cheap too compared to the repos - I think about 5 or 6 bucks which is about 4 bucks in U.S. currency. I've been using them on my classics for years. These are not NOS by the way, available through any GM dealer here but I get them cheaper through another supplier.

Don, I"m almost positive that you can't get this filter from any gm dealer today or suppliers like ground up which deal with detail items. The filters were in a old ac delco box which looked to be on a shelf for a while. Today you can get the regular blue filter or that same filter painted white with the vintage stencil.

Gleek, here's a picture of the ones available here. Both were bought last fall. My supplier did indicate that they may be phasing out the ones with the round AC logo.
Sounds like yours are different than these and may in fact be NOS Canadian filters. ------------------ ACES #4241, TC #947 69 SS Sedan |

Don, thanks for the pictures. The original looking ones that you can get in canada are nice. Five dollars sure beats 20 around here. There are some noticable differences in the filters. The logo is a darker red and on the bottom there is a raised circle with ac in the middle. If you put your filter on the car the writing is upside down. These are oposite. The upper lip is steel and not painted. Have you or anyone else know if the original american ones had the logo on the bottom with writing?

Good to get your input Gleek, they are definitely different. Sorry, but I really can give you any input on the other questions.

What kind of element is in the NOS filter? If paper, is it safe to use after 20-30 yrs?

Dennis, can't really tell what there made of on the inside but looks the same as the ones available today. These look like brand new inside. I've used one on one of my 70's and was fine.
