I'd send an old, used, stock core to Dave Ray... Maybe he sounds a little grouchy or harsh, but he builds a great product and tells it like it is...

Dave does a great job (IMO) of not only a quality rebuild (including the shaft), but he installs the electronics for the later GM HEI distributors... he also provides a list of the replacement parts needed so you can go to any auto parts store and get the right stuff... I have never needed replacements, because Dave uses quality stuff.

Dave will also set up your advance curves per the cam specs you provide.

So your "new" distributor looks almost "stock/original" (very slight difference IF you look hard).

I was considering a Pertronix (one of their's has the built-in rev-limiter), but was worried about "what happens if the module burns out on a trip"... Pertronix's response was that I could BUY a spare module and keep it in my glove box...

I needed a small body distributor to fit behind my air cleaner, an HEI won't fit.

I decided to go with Dave again...

Imho I would never buy a single screw from someone with his behavior, just look at the way he has behaved when he has posted here. Dont care how good he is.
How hard is it to convert a point distributor with msd or ford style reluctor and pickup and a hei module?

I'll admit Dave could mellow out a bit and be a bit more pleasant to converse with on this Forum. I'm still waiting for him to answer my questions.

However, I might have to disagree with your last statement. Have you ever converted a points distributor to electronic (and I'm not talking about buying a kit that someone else has already done all the necessary engineering and machining)? Dave is the only one on this Forum (outside of me) that I've seen do it.

My apologies to anyone on this Forum whom I've neglected to include in the few people who have engineered and built their own distributor/ignition conversions. I would greatly enjoy seeing additional examples of members craftsmanship.

When I try to go to his site, whether from home or work, Trend Micro blocks it. Anyone else experience this?

Yes I actually have done it twice using mopar reluctor and pickup and a hei module that I mounted on a heat sink plate. One on a car I sold needed something cheap and fast and had all parts on hand the other I did for a old friend that has limited funds. I did this two conversions several years ago in my shop with simple tools and admit they are probably not comparable with a proffessional conversion have a better machine and tool park now so if I did it today it would probably be a better looking product.

I apolgize if I insulated you or anyone else but was tired of all the bad talking about msd and pertronix from a certain person/company havent seen msd or pertronix bad talking the other company and last time I checked msd is a sponsor.

I worked on and installed several msd and a couple of pertronix distributors so far no one I did the installation on has failed or not worked as they should but I always follow the instructions. Have seen a couple that failed or not worked as they should but I blame the installer, they where not installed correct according to the instructions and after correct wiring and replacing broken parts they worked as they should.

My compliments! I always enjoy hearing about custom type projects.
I've used Chrysler parts in a Chevy distributor too. They package quite well in those distributors.
