Is it a major deal to install an Idit or other replacement steering column? Any big fabrications?
Thanks

As far as I remember, most aftermarket columns do not have ignition switches and locks in the column and you woul have to install a separate swicth/lock in or under the dash.... Keep this in mind when you look for a column...

Search under some of the forums for replacement columns. We used an '82 Camaro Tilt Column (Floorshift), with great success.

I have been checking for my 66, and if you are installing this in a 65 Malibu(based on your screen-name), then you don't have to worry about a different ignition switch... the stock ignition switch didn't come on the column until the 1969 models...

As far as I can see, its a bolt in, but you need to make sure the supplier knows what other parts are needed (might need adapters for steering box, wiring and steering wheel-might not come with a standard column)... One supplier I have seen is CPP (not sure of the actual name-something like Classic Performance Parts, or something...

Thanks for the info! What I have is a 65 malibu going from a PG to Richmond 5 speed. The steering column needs 80.00 worth of trashed blinker assembly and still has the automatic column indicator, ect. So I am looking at alternatives.
