Steve D 64 SS mentioned in his reply re: ?Z-16? that GM can scan VINs for factory options. Who do I call? I'd like to see what I've got before I butcher it. Is there a fee? Thanx

It's free yet I've never got around to ordering it. From what people have posted that is what it comes with along with other info. I'll look through some archives and find it.
Steve Here's the number 1-800-222-1020 this is chevy cust assistance center. Give them your VIN # and request a restoration book. It's free and will have a lot of info on your year model car. Good Luck with the resto. Mac67 This is part of a message I found that has the number in it. There was an original message that was posted where people were saying it gave the original options through a scan which was an original message posted by Mac67. I only checked through the July 1st edition maybe the original was earlier. I'm sorry if it does not include the info you were searching for that was the way it sat in my mind. As I said earlier I've never have recieved it. I think I'm gonna call today since I dug up the number. Good Luck, Steve [This message has been edited by Steve D 64 SS (edited 09-26-98).] |

Bryan,
I have the restoration packet for my 67 (and also for my other Chevys). It is loaded with lots of great information and tells you what equipment came with what options. It doesn't exactly tell you what your vin specifically came with as far as options, but if you can read your cowl tag and/or build sheet, those will tell you what option codes your car has. Then use the packet to determine what you've got. As Steve said it is free and will usually take Chevrolet a week or so to get to you from the time you order it. Good Luck! |

If the car was delivered and sold in Canada then you can get the complete build info on your car (I think there is a small fee). Not available in the US though as they claim these records no longer exist. Don't even waste you time trying as thousands have asked and got the same answer as I got. "The only records were the build sheets and those were left in the cars."

GM of Canada has documentation only on cars sold in Canada. The number is 1-800-263-3777. The information comes from the shipping lists from the various factories. You get the model, VIN, trim number and colour, paint code and colour, shipping date, plus all the options that came on the car along with their respective codes. You also get some other information as well which lists addresses of parts suppliers etc. The cost is $40 CDN plus tax.
