Default 67 el camino BBC w/long water pump?

I did a search and it looks like its doable. Is there any thing I should be aware of?
Ive got a 454, hedman headers for a bbc A body, and the accy brackets I have are the long waterpump variety. Only thing Im missing is the lower alternator bracket, Other than that I have the upper bracket, waterpump pulley, crank pulley, PS brackets for the later style pump, (not the banjo style).
I know about the oil pan for a A body, but it looks like thats it for having to buy stuff. For the radiator, im going with a ebay aluminum radiator.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
The car is a 67 el camino that had a big block that was removed before being sold. thanks. im

my cousin had a 66 Chevelle with a 402 that had the long water pump.. he had just enough room to squeeze a factory 4 blade solid fan in there... it was tight, but he drove that thing everywhere and beat the hell out of it without any cooling problems..

Yah, but he didn't do it in Arizona in July or August. Jim, you gonna run electric fan(s)?

Jim Mac,
I have a 454, LWP, alternator on L side in my '67.
I run a fixed blade 17" fan, a short spacer to get past the alt pulley, and a factory repro fan shroud, with an Alumitech radiator.
No problems.

MN in July isn't exactly a cakewalk for cooling systems..

Im hoping to get away with a fixed fan or a flex fan, I am going with a aluminum radiator. The motor I have is a stock truck type 454 so its not a high horse motor, hopefully just torquey. The tranny is a TH350 with a shift kit and a 2500 stall and the rear gears are 3.08. My buddy did offer me a deal on a 454 last night. I think its about 9.5 to 1 peanut ports, performer cam and intake. Fresh riings bearings oil pump and gaskets. The motor came out of another friends truck that he sold. It was a great running motor, but since it was out my friend decided to freshen it up. Comes with the swp brackets and pulleys, bb fan shroud, motor mounts. Only issue I have is convincing my wife to pitch some cash in on the project. jim

I run a new, stock replacement, BBC 66 radiator in the 65. I use a full 66 shroud and fixed blade fan setting 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the shroud - along with a long water pump. The fan sets about 3/4" from the radiator. The 66/67 radiators are a true full crossflow and are pretty efficient if in good condition. The iron head 496 never gets over 190 in heavy traffic, but typically runs at 170 - 180 regardless of the outside temp when moving down the road. It has a 180 stat in it. Did the same set up to a friends 66 with a ZZ502 and it runs about the same, maybe 5 degrees higher. Ignition timing is crucial to running cool too, I find that I need at least 16 degrees base to let it run cool. FWIW. Ed

My 67 Malibu has a Edlebrock long Aluminum Water Pump. I had a custom 4 row copper radiator built. I use a high performance flex fan with a shroud. No cooling problems for my 540 inch Rat at all.

The flex fan clears the radiator by about an inch.

My 67 chevelle is a 427 long water pump, oem standard radiator with a 15in fan, big block fan shroud with a 1in fan spacer I think, to clear the alternator. ALL I did was reroute the harness over to the pass side, purchased 70 BB brackets bolted everything up and never looked back.

I have a 427 bored .030 over, approx 420-430 hp and have absolutely no run hot conditions in heavy stop and go traffic, at freeway speeds, or when I make a frequent run of 10mi at 100mph in the dead of summer 80-90 degrees to see a friend.
