Default ZZ4 cam upgrade LT-4 HC or the ZZ383 ?

I have a question for the engine gurus.I ran my ZZ4 for the summer and like all my buddies said I'm missing my big block Anyway I have done a pile of research just not sure what would be better.I have some new fastburn heads, going to also install either the gm dualplane vortec intake or edelbrock the same time as the cam swap.
Hot cam specs @.050 I 218 E 228 LSA 112 lift with 1.6 rockers I .525 E .525
ZZ383 cam specs @.050 I 222 E 230 LSA 112 lift with 1.5 rockers I .509 E .528
Would the duration increase a couple of degrees with the 1.6 rockers on the hot cam?If so maybe that makes these cams identical ? WHat would you guys do?

These cams look pretty similar but I like the higher redline of the zz383 cam and using 1.5 rockers. My chevelle is a 4spd with 3:31 12 bolt.Just looking for something that makes it a little more fun but still has nice driveability and a slight lope when idling. Thanks for all opinions and I have searched the archives to death but could not find out much about the zz383 cam.

I've got something slightly larger that you might like...
This Reed hyd roller cam was ground for a 9.5 CR 350 with Vortec heads. Stepnose and has fuel pump lobe. Brand new in box.
IMO, would work VERY well in your application.

I have the hotcam in my ZZ4 now, presently in my K1500. There isn't too much lope, and 17" vacuum at idle. From the looks of it, between those two, I'd go with the ZZ383 cam solely for the fact you can use 1.5's.

you can use 1.5 rockers with the HOT cam.. but why? the HOT cam was practically made for the Fastburn heads..

i had that cam paired up with Vortec heads in my Nova, and it was awesome.. 17" of vacuum at a steady 800rpm idle- it would lope a tiny amount at 750. great throttle response and torque down low and it pulled hard up to 7000 rpm. and it always averaged around 17mpg despite the 3.70 gears without overdrive and my occasional lead foot.

Never said I was going to use 1.5 rockers on the hot cam,I would use 1.6.To me it just looks like the zz383 cam might be better, they use this cam with fastburns on the 383 for 425 horse.I was just looking for opinions from more knowledgeable people with more experience than myself
What are you looking to get out of the reed cam Bill?Would it still have a reasonable idle?

Your ZZ4 short block with the Fastburn heads and the Hot cam with the 1.6 rockers will get you 430 hp, you are more or less building the ZZ430.

Great combination

Dave

The ZZ430 cam looks to be the old GM 846 cam. Google search will turn up plenty of info, the LT1 guys liked to run both.

I like the slightly bigger 846 with a manual trans in a LT1 but I'd be tempted to step up to Bill's cam.
