Default Trying to install ZZ502 having problems.

Ok first off I swapped the pan with the GM pan from Summit. So that was done...BUT....Im trying to install motor and running into all sorts of problems. First off I get the passenger side bolt in the mount and im working my arse off on the drivers side and finally said what is going on here? So I get a flash light for a closer look. Well theres a few things. First off the pan is resting on the cross member!!! How? I switched out the truck pan with the correct GM pan from Summit. Same pan that Davey here used. Then the drivers side valve cover is in direct contact with the brake booster. To make matters worse im looking at my heater core and wondering how the hell im going to get heater hoses on there? Theres like barely 2 inches clearance there. So out of curiosity I pull out one of the headers the passenger side one and theres no way on gods green earth these are going on without puling motor back up off mounts!! So I get under the car and wiggle the motor and tranny back in forth, I get a bit aggressive with it and boom it moves. Im thinking ok maybe I got it now. Well no dice....the freakin motor mount tab bent straight up in the air!!! I bent the tab on the motor mount...are you kidding me and this is supposed to hold my motor secure?

OK its getting late and im frustrated. So I grabbed a beer and headed here to ask for help. Im totally lost right now and confused. I followed everyones advice here and some very reputable people. So its gotta be something I did or am doing wrong. But what? What the heck is going on?

Pics would sure help.
If you are running headers, you may need to dent a tube or two to make them fit.
Some oil pans are made for a certain chassis, you may need to try a few versions to get one that fits your body.
you'll need to remove the inner fender wells to get access to some heater hoses...for now you could just reroute the hoses and bypass the heater core, unless you plan on running the heater.
You are using new motor mounts which are correct for the body?
You can add washers to the motor mount to raise the engine up slightly,to clear suspension components.
Stuffing a big block into some engine compartments can be a little tricky...but you'll figure something out.
Good Luck.

Ok first off the dog house is off so theres nothing there to be in the way. No headers on at the moment. I have Headman ellites that are going on. The oil pan I have is the exact same one Davey here used on his 67. So theres shouldnt be any problems unless I got the wrong one. The last thing is the motor mounts are energy suspensions. Im pretty sure they are the right ones. If they are supposed to be taller or I raise the motor hieght im going to have problems with the driver side valve cover and the brake booster. Im not even sure if its at the correct hieght now it sitting on jack stands.

BBC frame mounts, as above, slightly taller.

On '66 and '67 Chevelles the BB and SB frame mounts are dimensionally the SAME!
I've seen them both types (originals) compared side by side at Sundells. The BB frame mounts are just re-enforced with gussets on the underside.
I've installed NUMEROUS small and big block engines in my '67 using the original factory 283 frame mounts and the corresponding small block engine mounts..no problems!!
In fact, using a Moroso tall & narrow solid mount on the driver side.
Again...no issues.
I think you have the wrong Energy Suspension poly mounts...

Ill definately try that for headers. I cant use short valve covers had to go with tall covers for cam change out and 1.7 rockers!! Im hoping I didnt make a mistake making that change now.

Explain slightly, because if it goes much higher im not gonna clear the booster. Right now its got about enough room to slide a piece of cardboard through. It needs to drop down about a 1/8 inch more but cant. Pan hitting cross-member. Once i figure out why???? Then ill have about a 1/8 clearance to booster to valve cover.

Its a 11" booster so im wondering now if im going to have to go to a smaller booster. Man this sux.

I can see where that would make the most sense. But these are the ones that summit told me I needed. Because they shipped me the wrong ones the first time. They sent me the clamshells or whatever you call them?? Anyway heres the ones they said I needed.

Damn.....well it shows a 396 as one of the motors but also shows a bunch of SB's. SON of A B#$@!!! Dont tell me they sent me the wrong ones again???!!

Sure as S@#T!! These are the ones I needed arent they?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-3-1122G/

Damn it I never had a problem with Summit before so when I got the wrong ones the first time I assumed we had everything correct over the phone. I told him it was a 502 based off a 454. But the thing I dont understand is they list the 396 under both mounts??

Yes looking at pictures definate difference in the 2. Ok so I have to switch those out.

Problem...anyone ever return or try and return anything to Summit slightly damaged? lol I know should prob just eat it. The tab can easily bend back but the one hole on the passenger side got sligtly dinged up trying to line up holes with a steel rod. So Im sure they wouldnt take it. Although it was thier fault even after I told the guy what I needed.

Next question since its going to sit higher now am I screwed with the 11" booster now? I mean if the motor flexes which im sure it will its prob going to hit the booster. The drivers side is the side that flexs up right or am I wrong on that as well?? Oh man I thought I was on easy street now lol. Always something......

Looks like they f'd you over again. Get confirmation from someone else, but I think you're right. You'll probably be hitting the brake booster with the correct mounts though. Which valve covers do you have? On my 71, I found some tall valve covers that would clear and some that wouldn't.

Save yourself some grief...

Buy a tall/narrow Moroso solid mount for the driverside and a regular replacement motor mount for the passenger side.
I'm using "cheater" chrome valve covers on my big block...clears full roller rockers w/poly locks AND the 11" brake booster.
Not sure if you have plans for also using power steering on your '66 with stock, short waterpump pullys & brackets but if so...you'll have issues with tall valve covers too.
