Default 72 Chevelle Convertible

Hey Guys,

I was wondering what a 72 Chevelle convt. would be worth.
I'm hoping to take alook at today. I will try and take a few pictures then.
It's red with the black stripes and interior. It has new crager ss wheels. The body is solid and the paint is decent (driver condition). The frontend has been completely rebuilt. The guy has not drivin it in about 8 or 10 years. He started it a couple days ago and it runs good. I believe the original engine is long gone, but it has a pretty stout sb with a mild cam. It has ps and pb. I'm not sure if it has buckets or bench, but it does have the sweep dash. I'm really thinking about buying it if the price is right.
With that said, if the car has decent paint, interior, and runs good, can you tell
me what this might be worth.

Thanks,
Brian

11-20000 more or less for a decent driver without major issues. Hard to put a number on it without pictures of everything. So don't take that number as gospel. Look hard for rust or Mickey Mouse repairs.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Convertible-/200721095365?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2ebbe8dac5

This next car is a 71. Think it sold for under $12,000 and current owner is flipping it....It should bring more.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-...item35baeb500a

Another 71 with a buy it now of $19,000. Compare condition to the car you are going to look at.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-...item3a722ee664

Your best bet would be to do a search and find what they are selling for and offerred at. Google! Get in the know before you go.

Well,
I went and looked at the car. It's not in as good a shape as I thought since the last time I saw it. It's been sitting in a pole barn for quite some time. The interior reeks of mice urine, so the interior would need to be redone. It looks like this car was originally a stick car. I don't know if it was a 3 spd or a 4 spd. Someone put bucket seats from an older car in it and as you can see it has a console. The trunk floor appears solid. Sorry for the poor picture quality. There wasn't alot of room to take good pictures. The guy put a batt. in the car and it started right up and ran smooth. I did notice alot of tranny fluid on the floor under the car, so the trans would probably need to come out to be freshened up. There's filler in the lower portion of the rear 1/4's.

You already have a 70 so what do you want a 72 for? j/k. I have a 70 and would love a convertible any year. A nice straight 6 convertible DD summertime cruiser.

OK.. now about the 72 in question, what do you want to do with it? throw mega $$ into it for not much/no return. Because looking at it i think it could be low buck respectable DD depending what you could get it for, and as long as you a frugal about what you put into it (unless money is no object) then that's another story.

Two things that you commented on in your above post.
#1 The interior.. sure it may smell but how bad is it really? when it gets aired out and cleaned good with some orange citrus cleaner it may be a world of difference. Maybe most of the smell is in the rug and once that is changed with the rest cleaned it will be Ok.

#2 The transmission..i can see the spot on the floor in the first pic so surly it is leaking, but it does not mean it needs to come out. It may just be the pan gasket or the selector shaft seal leaking. You wouldn't know if it needs to come out until the car is driven to see if it shifts right.

There.. two things that can be done on a budget(unless there is no budget) then go hog wild.

Just some helpful advice i thought i would throw out there.

Hmm, I wonder which has been replaced, the pedals or the brakes?

The car has the disk brake medallion on the pedal, but it has 4 wheel drums in the pictures. What is the VIN? You can use it to determine which engine it originally came with, which will effect the value. Even though it is definitely a Malibu, it could have been a factory big block car.

What was the original color combo as per the trim tag?

Brian;

Let us know if you decide to rescue this one. I'm assuming this car was in storage for many years? I wonder why?

Nothing wrong with a '72 convertible! Could you get this car for around $5,000? That may be too low...

Mine's from Baltimore, 350 2 barrel 4 speed fixed up as needed/ driver quality- I'd guess if I was to sell it would be worth $13K- $16K?

Not for sale though.

Of the few pics I took, the one I should've takin would of been of the cowl tag.
I never thought of it.
John, that is a very nice convt. you have!

The guy said, if I wanted the car, he would only sell it to me and no one else for $7500. If someone else wanted the car he would want more. The car needs alot of TLC, and I hope the mice haven't done to much damage especially to the wiring.

Well,
my friend just called me and threw out another offer. He told me if I want the car, I can have it for $6500. Does that sound like a decent price?

what beautiful clean car.all that car needs is a nice set of rims and you can keep the hubcaps in a box in the garage.
