I had Mark build me one of his pump-gas GM oval-port 496 combo's.
Specs: 4.31x4.25 496bbc Mahle pistons 10.8:1 Scat crank/rods Milodon 31188 oil pan Solid roller .731/.715 268/278@50 108lsa GM 781 ovals 2.25x1.88 Victor Jr 454-O Holley Aluminum Ultra-HP 950 carb ![]() ![]() It took a couple passes to get a handle on the suspension. Seems as though the extra weight up front doesn't help keep the nose down. 1.297 3.823 6.007@112.1 7.92 9.560@136.79 The above pass was with 32° advance (37° made best numbers on dyno) and the car felt a little lean at the end of the track. So.......feeling better about the suspension settings and also running out of time, I decided to bring the timing up to 35° and threw some jet at the carb. I also tightened the front shock extension another 2 clicks hoping to counter the extra power. It wasn't enough as the car started to climb hard and I pedaled again. So as it stands, the motor is running 9.56 in "detuned" shape. I'm looking forward to playing with it over the next few months as I give the engine the timing and fuel it wants and figuring out the suspension settings to deal with the extra power. In all honesty, I see no reason it won't run a 9.3X once I get it all lined out. Not too damn shabby for a lil ole pump-gas 496 combo using factory block and heads. Big thanks to Mark for a solid/powerful build. What happened to the bad small block? I understand the weight gain now and the car slowing from previous outings. Did you just get the urge to drive it once in a while? A set of AFR 290 heads would take some weight off, (at least 70 lbs.), and maybe gain 40-50 h.p. too if Mark would go over them first. What rear end gear did you run the other day?

Wow!!!Hows the pan working as far as fit?Mark installed a canton pan on mine and i had an issue with the centerlink but worked it out.also still workin out the dipstick tube issue as canton puts it on the driver side and there is no room.really don,t know why but they did.congrats on the new motor!
