Default LS6 buyer beware

Amazing. Some people will try and get away with anything. Here are two adds. One for a 1970 SS396 the other for a 1970 LS6. Both black, white stripe. One is an automatic the other is a manual. The SS396 add is old. I was hired to fly out and inspect the LS6 car. Before I ever do that for a buyer I do several hours worth of research on the net before I waste my time and their money. Other than the obvious (same VIN 136370B144938) these are both the same car. Someone went to a lot of trouble to change transmissions, qauges and interior colors but if you look at several different features, they are one and the same car. Even the small dent in the p/s pump are exactly the same on both cars as is the cowl weatherstrip installation. Unless one or the other sellers stole photos to use in their add, this car has experience a sex change! Man this sort of stuff pisses me off!

In the Ebaay ad he says he has the build sheet. How legit is that likely to be?

I would like to see a "copy" of it as I have photos of the SS396 buildsheet.

The law needs to start coming down REALLY hard on the clone artists. I get calls from collectors every week that recently purchased one of these cars and want it inspected only to find out that they now own a very expensive paperweight. If you are going to spend a lot of money for one of these cars, hire someone who knows what they are looking at BEFORE you buy it. A couple thousand now can save you 10's of thousands later!! For every 12 LS6's I inspect, 10 are fake!!! Very sad.

Rick, great work, it wouldn't be hard to legally trap this crook but a lot harder if you leave this thread on TC.

This is why I firmly believe in posting this sort of information publically as long as it is legitimate. I am only reporting what seems to be very obvious. At the very least it will help the next potential buyer who does a search on the net using this VIN. If we all keep our mouths shut these people will just continue to screw people.

I agree, this is very helpful to everyone but my thoughts were to nail the guy without tipping him off then post the information about the crime. The eBay add has been ended.

interesting to note when the interior was ivory, there was no medallions on the rear seat.
And they are still not present on the black back seat.Wonder if it was a dye job?

Good catch Chris!!! I missed that. Likely was a dye job as these sorts of people take the shortest and cheapest way out so as to increase their profit margin.

True and he did a gauge swap (addition).
