Default 70-72 chevelle and monte carlo frames

i want to use an entire 71 monte carlo firewall/cowl section and the frame as a temporary jig to rebuild a 70 chevelle convertible until i can find a nice convertible frame to transfer everything over to. i notice the monte carlo also has the two sets of firewall brackets that the body bushings bolt to,like the convertible.

i know the frame on a 70-72 monte carlo is longer than the chevelle from the firewall forward, but is it the same from the firewall back? the floorpans look to be the same. i know the trunk pans have a different design, but i think the body bushing locations are the same from the firewall back. can anyone verify this?

thanks, dave

Yes......who gave away my secret. The Monte was considered a Heavy Duty application body, just like the convertibles, El Camino and Station wagon.

Doesn't the Monte Carlo have a longer wheel base ??? 112" for the convert and 116" for the Monte.

The wheel base is longer. The frame is different from the cowl forward. The monte uses a different clutch cross shaft bracket because of it. To answer the O.P. question, the frame is the same as a hardtop from the cowl back. It is not boxed like a vert is.

Now we know where you are getting all of the "convertible" font body mount boxes from.......
