Ok...strange one here. Yesterday I ran my car, 427 BBC, 4 sp tranny and it was great! Idled nice, timing real close and came home from getting my tires installed.
Today I fire it up and it won't idle down. No choke hooked up. Vac advance hooked to bottom of carb at front cuz there isn't a port on the metering block. I turned out the idle screw and now it's about to come out. The cable isn't hanging up, the plates are closed, and I don't see any gas leaking in the bores. I'm really lost.....

Hadn't thought of checking that....as soon as I get home from work, gonna see if it idles/bogs down by covering the intake of the carb with my hands and also see if the plates are sticking open a touch. Thanks!

Demon carbs were notorious for the throttle blades not being centered, so when they get hot, they get sticky and won't close down. Maybe this one has a similar issue. Is this a new carb?

Sadly no....I bought it from a gent here. He rebuilt it and it was working perfectly for the 3 weeks I've had the car running, last night it just started acting up..I"m going to pull the vacuum hoses and caps first, make sure the throttle plates aren't stuck, then go from there. Got a friend who is gonna look at it tomorrow and if we can't figure it out, I'm gonna buy an Edelbrock.

OMG.
a bad solution to a minor problem. did you check to see if the sec throttles were hung open? check to see if it's not a carb problem at all, maybe a vacuum leak? linkage hung up? OTOH, buy an Edelbrock and send me that cruddy Holley.

Well, I had an Eddy 600 on a small block and never had a problem. As for checking things, haven't been home to work it. Hopefully soon!

Geez, I can't catch a break....well, ok, I can! I used a screwdriver and made the plates open. Then with the engine shut off, I took the plates to full open and then let them snap back. Apparently that fixed it. Idle back to normal
Thanks for the idea Tom!

It's still warm here (80ish) but there are only a couple of cruise ins left. I'm kinda looking forward to the winter season cuz I get to buy chrome trim for the car and finish the resto. 4.5 years is too long so I had to drive it without the trim!
