Doug, I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but I have 5/8" diameter wheel studs with the Weld Racing Prostar wheels in the rear of my car. The Weld Prostar wheels fit over the 5/8" studs perfect. A nice snug fit. This is a pretty crummy pic taken with a cheap disposable camera but here ya go....

I run the 5/8 studs on mine as well. The width of the stud is the same diameter as the shoulder of the 1/2" nut so no changes to the wheel are required. I only went to 5/8 when I narrowed the rear, otherwise it was 1/2" on the small tires.

I have 5/8" studs, and run Centerlines. The stud is the right size for the hole in aluminum wheels. No alterations to the wheels required, just slide them on and use whatever spacer/washer (supplied with the studs usually) fits, torque the nut on, and go.

I even kept the stock brakes. I used a step drill bit to enlarge the holes in my brake drums to the exact right size. Worked great.

I run 5/8" wheel studs on my 66. When I was racing it I also ran Weld Draglites. The draglites fit over the 5/8" stud without any modification (very tight fit). That said, I'm not sure at what point 5/8" wheel studs are required. I ordered a set of cutom wheels for street driving and it was a PITA getting the wheels made to fit the 5/8" studs. Honestly if I had it to do over again I would have probably used 1/2" studs. HTH...

Doug 1/2" is plenty for cars like ours but there's no harm if you want to use 5/8". Just remember to make sure your thread engagement matches or exceeds the diameter of the stud you choose..Dave

Thanks for all the replies, guys. The reason I ask is,Weld says on their website you can't use a 5/8 stud with their Draglites?I'm just wondering if 1/2 is enough,I was running long Moroso 7/16 studs but I had a problem with them, and need to step up to something stronger.
