In the bangshift article it says its rated at 720tq so:
is the 720tq with a 100 shop of giggle gas?
or is that a miss print?
the hp seams doable, but the tq not so much

Kinda surprised at a 6000 rpm peak. 315 cc intake ports, 250/270 @ .050". 20* spread on the duration. Guess it just shows how fast cubic inches eat up cam timing.

Why do people always think TQ can not or will not be the same as or more then the HP? Lots of engines make more peak TQ then HP and some make the same as. I have seen several BBC make 50+ more peak TQ then HP. HP is a made up number anyways. Only TQ can be measured. HP is calculated based on TQ.

The LSX stuff runs hard.

I have a friend that has an 02 Camaro with a pump gas LSX 454, single plane intake with a Pro Systems SV1, TH400, 5500 stall, 4.10's, 295 drag radials, 3350 lbs and it runs low 9.40's with a best 60 foot of 1.28.

In fact, the car won the N/A BB Dragweek class this past year.

Here is a video from a couple of years ago.

No one said that
But 1.6 lb/ft per inch is bit much for any normally aspirated engine
That is Pro Stock territory

That is as much as the the GMPP 720R BBC race engine that is 118 cubes larger.
Who says you need a big heavy engine??

Just guessing, this might be a little tough to run on the street with a low stall converter and air conditioning?

All joking aside, it does make you wonder why hasn't GM pushed the development of symetrical port heads. It's certainly proven architecture in the LS motors.

Since when is being able to Idle in gear with a tight converter a criteria for a race engine build?
Anytime someone has a faster car than Joe's special 460 concoction, we get the "bet it wont Idle with a tight converter excuse"
A low compression 6.0/l92 junkyard, pump gas combo LS will spank that combo all day....
regardless of the cam du jour it may be running....sorry Joe
My original comment was that the DR version LSX made the same power as a much larger and heavier BBC.
The other 454LSX crate shown above will meet the "Joe criteria" with ease and do it while make more HP/cu with less total engine weight.
wake and smell the coffee guys..these are good times...

I have repeatedly been a supporter of the LS achitecture. And, will state again, I do wonder why GM did not further pursue symetrical head design with the BBC platform for a production powerplant(beyond the 8.1L truck and marine program). And, once again, this LSX dispells a few myths: large 314cc rec port heads with a 2.25" intake valve on a 4.185" bore, obviously shows that shrounding from a smaller bore doesn't have the effect that many claim. Not knowing the LS well, could be that the combustion chamber design is such that it allows for efficient flow on a smaller bore? Whatever the reason, they work well and I enjoy seeing the results when it is utilized.

As to my personal preference for a certain idle quality, or whether I feel like spending an afternoon doing a cam swap just for the heck of it or if the car responds or doesn't, what difference does that make to you? If I wanted a race car, I'd just build or buy one. I honestly could care less who's car is faster or slower. You just don't get it, it's all about the tinkering.

I have never made any issue a personal issue, but you have taken it upon yourself to cross the threshold. Your words, your choice. Do me a favor if you will. If our paths ever happen to cross again in public, pretend that we never met. It'll be better that way.
