Thumbs up best paint job

I drove and talked to many Maaco paint shops in a 75 mile radius of my house. I needed a full paint job,I found a shop that I was comfortable with and left my 67 Chevelle there to be painted Bolero Red. They did a great job! I did a complete frame off rebuild, down to the needles on the gauges,I am a perfectionist and it took me 8 years. I have no affiliation with this shop and I have nothing to gain if anyone goes there, but I told the owner that I would let ACES know about him. The Maaco is located in Racine Wisconsin, the owners name is Kim. His phone # is 262-619-0600 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting**************262-619-0600******end_of_the_skype_highlighting

Chris,Calvin and Halfassed, I will be posting pics within the next day or two. If you can tell the difference between a good paint job and a "10 footer" paint job from a picture, you are much more knowledgeable men then I am.

Perhaps you need a better camera. There are plenty of pics on here of great and not-so-great paint jobs and it's usually not too hard to tell which is which.

There are also plenty of pictures that make a car look very good when in real life they're really not all that nice.

A perfectionist doing an 8 year restoration wouldnt go to Macco.
I doubt that they would even think of it.

Thats a dumb statement...not everyone can afford a 7k+ paint job...especially in this economy...some painters (even at maaco) have a passion for painting old cars and are willing to take the time to do it right...especially an independantly owned Maaco. There are many proven threads supporting this statement as well.

Thats my thinking too. Why in the world would you spend 8 years doing all that work, then blow the whole restoration, letting some kid paint your car with a paint brush. I can understand if money is an issue, given this lousy economy, but I'd wait, and get the job done right, or do it yourself. Many folks here have done their own paint/sanding/buffing, using budget materials. Thats got to be better solution than a $300.00 paint job from Macco.

There is nothing wrong with getting your car painted at Maaco. I plan on having a Maaco paint my Chevelle granted Im supplying the paint and stuff, but Ive seen their work and its excellent. Plus my car is a driver so why spend 7K on a paint job just to get it scratched in the first 30 seconds I drive it. I know the owner of where I am taking it and Ive had friends take their cars there and he has reassured me that it will be done right. Im also twenty so I dont have money just laying around, and Im also finishing the motor and the interior while I daily drive the car.

The materials for my last paint job cost over $2K. I would not spend 8 years on a restoration and have a low budget paint job thrown on it. Let's see what it looks like next year!

I wasn't talking about your car. I was talking about the guys car, who started this thread. He spent 8 years on a frame off restoration. I personally don't care who paints it, but it seems to me, if you're going to spend that much time and money doing a frame off restoration, spend a few more bucks on it, and have it painted right. No painter can do a quality paint job, for a few hundred dollars. The paint for my cars cost $1000.00, and that was after I spent $2000.00 on various primers.

Maaco may work for an old pick-up, you're driving to work every day, but for an 8 year long, frame off Chevelle restoration, it's a bad move, that will come back and bite him in a year or two.
