Default How to cut Wrought Iron...?

Hello-
I need to create an opening in a wrought iron railing, so a dog can pass thru. I need to make three cuts to remove one "spindle". I think this stuff is solid, not hollow.

What do I need to cut it, don't have a torch. Pics below........and thank you.

For just 1 piece ,I'd try a hacksaw first.

I'd probably put a metal blade in my Sawzall or jig saw.

Hacksaw and a little elbow grease ought to do it.

EDIT: unless you have a reciprocating saw, then just throw a metal blade in that and go to town.

My Dewalt 4.5" hand grinder with a .045 cutting disc will make short work of that railing

Yup, hard to compete with those thin cutoff wheels on anything these days. Slices steel like butter, just let the wheel do the work, don't force it or they'll disappear in a cloud of dust.

Yeah, cutoff wheel in my air cutter would be gone in a minute or two. But I still have the hacksaw for backup!

Make sure you smooth out the file down the edges when your done. That could be a big owie waiting to happen if you dont.

Yes, and the only way it would take 15 minutes is if included drinking the beers your smilies are holding.

Done wrought iron work for 10 years. Best way to cut that 1/2 picket is a grinder getting the cut as close to the bottom rail as you can, or you can cut the bottom rail off if you don't need it and weld it back in at the height you cut the pickets out giving the look it's always was made like that. A hacksaw would be a uphill battle with a 1/2 square stock, jig saw would burn up blades, and the saws-all could bend the blades its it gets jammed.
