Default What`s a 454 bowtie 1107 block worth ?

I have a lead on three Bowtie blocks that I roughly measured the bore at 4.480 +-

I read where they are being taken out all the way to 4.610 without problems and no fill. So there`s a ton of rebuilds left if that`s the case !

Also 3 bare sets of iron Merlin heads what`s their going rate these days any ideas ?

Steve I thought a 454 was 4.25. The 502 is 4.47 so those sound closer to that. If it's a 502 then .060 is probably safe but I don't know after that. JMO...Davey

Davey...these blocks are probably the same as a 502 version. They start with the 454 bore but being a Bowtie block they have a huge amount of cyl wall.

As a starting point, a std production 454 4 bolt block will bring $500.00
So I`m wondering what I can get for one.

A std production 454 4 bolt block in mint condition. If it needs any machine work you need to subtract that.

Around here a good solide running complete 454 goes for around $500 +/- $100.

not arguing Steve, re-learning all this after a long time off and don't uinderstand. You can't bore a 454 to 502, is that what you're saying? 4 bolt 454 bare blocks are going for around $400 in my town...Davey

This is off the motrec website
10051107.454.4-bolt, Bowtie, MkIV, 9.8" deck, siamesed bores, 4.25" semi-finished bores, can be bored to 4.50"

If the block is already at 4.48, It is right at the 4.5. From other articles, the max is 4.56 so I do not know. On racing junk, a new block with that casting number never used is 1800 asking. So I would figure 500 plus or minus a few.

man that's really interesting Steve, is this a fairly common block or a rarity? All I ever hear about is the 496 type motor, I would think more guys would bore and keep the short stroke....Davey

the bowtie bbc block is a made for racing block thats been around since pro stock went to 500 cu in in 1982. from memory there are tall and short deck versions of a sportsman block with nodular caps and the pro versions with billet caps. they come in mark iv versions and maybeVI but i dont remember and they also have the raised cam, wider pan rail etc pro stock blocks. the 502 engine block is not the same as the bowtie. they are much stronger and heavier. i think they will go 4.625 and still have sufficient material

From what I can gather, the 454 Bowtie block and the 502 Bowtie block are actually the same block, the only difference was the final bore size when it left the factory.

With custom pistons available for not a whole lot more than your garden variety version and available in increments of as little .001 or whatever, these blocks ,seriously, have alot of rebuilds in them !
Not the old .030/.040/.060 etc of yesteryear

the bowtie blocks come rough bored to 4.494 and you can get the pro version with billet caps rough bored 4.240. 4.6 is max recommended bore for each. you are thinking of the production 454 and 502 blocks. they are different ; the 502 has a siamesed bore with max recommended bore of 4.5 .the 454 block has water between the bores and generally max bore is 4.310 although some blocks have been bored as mush as .125 over

This block came in two versions. Either a 454 with a 4.250 rough bore or 502 with it`s corresponding larger bore. It`s the original Bowtie made circa 1990.

Both siamesed with blind deck holes.
Std main caps..nothing splayed.
