Default SFI ratings and expiration

I ordered a new TCI flexplate from the largest mail order company without mentioning their S name. The flexplate arrives today and it is already two months old as per the SFI date. I called TCI, they said I could ship it to them and they would re-cert it to a current date. I called the S cust service and they told me I could ship it back for a refund or wait for four months for a freshly certed one as they only rotate stock every 6 months. So buyer beware and for certain in the future I will buy MFG direct on an SFI part with an expiration date. This is BS as if a flexplate wears out anyway considering how often it "really" gets used.

What kind of 'life' do these parts have ? I know I have to get new harnesses next year, but what about trans shield, balancer, and flex plate ? Do they have a limited "tech passing" lifetime ?

The rules are, the balancer has no expiration. Trans shield 5 years, blanket 2 years. Flexplate is 3 years. I have been running my car for almost 15 years at several NHRA tracks. My experience is that as long as they are there and APPEAR in good condition no one will be checking dates. I have yet to see someone try to get under my car to see those stickers.

I have had my belt dates checked. Nothing else.
In fact, the SFI sticker on the flexplate is no longer there...gone.

I have to strip the paint off of my balancer to record the sfi number. Got hell in tech about that. This is truly bs. Belts expiring every two years. Give my a break. My first set of belts never got one pass on them, but they wouldn't pass tech. They were brand new, I say again, brand new, but are laying in my shop in a heap. BS.

My car runs 10.90's. Now I have to pull the tranny to put in a shield. Will this never end?

My bet is the only time you will ever get a flexplate inspected is at a national event.

What about a fire jacket? Are they 2-5 yrs also? That SFI deal is a bunch of BS. Absolutely nothing wrong with my belts and they have to be replaced this year. I know we need a certain amount of required safety equipment, but the SFI deal is ridiculous. Is my kevlar trans shield decaying?

I'm gonna jump on this bandwagon, haven't bitched about anything today anyway. I think it is a crock of ****ing shyt. Damn nazi bastards should eat shyt and die for making us waste money that way.

The least they could do is not begin the ticking clock until the first time you go through tech, then the tech guy could punch the hole and start the clock but come on, how many uses do these items really get. For example a belt going bad that was never used or a flexplate that was never even delivered to the user or as above the kevlar shield as if the spinning parts inside effect the shield. WTF?

jackets and pants have no expiration. And as far as why they do, money. NHRA guarantees sponsor dollars by requiring specific components. I agree that the belt issue is rediculous. In NY when I worked at the machine shop, they ran a circle track truck. Now every week they were hitting something. They got 3 years on a set of belts, where I had to change them in 2 and not hit anything.
