Default Disassemble th350

I am trying to tear down a junk th350 so I can have just the case for mockup purposes. I have gotten it about halfway taken apart but now I cant get the rear section of the internals out. What I can see inside appears to be an empty drum with a planetary gearset in the center, it moves but wont pull out. I dont see amy snap rings or anything else holding it in. Im not too concerned about damaging anything as I am only after the empty case. Any advice?

Thanks, Dan

Do you know the history of the trans or did it literally come from a junkyard? My TH350 died and when my friend went to rebuild it he couldn't even get the thing apart, much like you are describing. At that point he threw it in the scrap heap and got another core. I'm sure there are others more knowledgeable that will chime in, but I guess it's possible for a case to be too far gone if it was beaten on or suffered a catastrophic failure.
Good luck with your project!

You have removed the front pump, intermediate clutches, direct drum, forward drum, and input ring gear.
There is a snap ring that holds the input carrier onto the output shaft. Remove the snap ring.
The carrier will often be stuck to the shaft. Tap on the shaft with a brass drift, sometimes a puller is necessary because the splines are burred.

Once you get that off the sun shell will slide out, and then a snap ring on the low housing and it will come apart pretty easy.

Thanks for the replies, I dont know the history of the trans but the fluid that came out was pretty dark but no chunks of metal. Where is this snap ring located? Should it be pretty obvious? I am not seeing anything "out in the open" holding these parts together. Thanks again for the help.

Look in the center of the planetary, you should see a set of splines coming through it, this is the front of your output shaft, you may need a flashlight, but there is a small snap-ring about 3/4" in diameter retaining the planetary to the output shaft., Like Dan said, once the snap-ring is removed, use a brass drift (you may need an extra hand) and hit on the output shaft while holding forward pressure on the planetary. I use an old input shaft and stick it in the hole in the center of the output shaft, so I don't need a 3rd hand.

Got it... that snap ring is hard to see in there! Everything else came apart pretty easy. Thanks again.
