Default 427 chevy big block build up??

Looking to build up my 427 in the 1967 chevelle i just bought. Its a 67 or 68 385 hp out of a caprice. I has a 2bolt mains with a steel crank everything else I will probably replace. Im looking for a radical build with pump gas. 10.5-11.0 to1 compression tops. Aftermarket heads roller cam etc. any suggestions. seen a 700hp build in an article for enginemasters is this possible? thanks in advance Mike

I am sure Kevin R will chime in. 66 Chevelle street beast
He is 11.5 territory.

Remember, go-fast engines will need good fuel system and lots of traction
You can get a lot of power but at some point you will lose manners and the desire to operate it on the street. I think Kevin is near the end of the 'streetable' side.

I am another Kevin but just bought a new motor for my 67ss chevelle that was proffessionally built, makes 607 hp, 627 ft/lb. on the engine dyno. It is at the edge of streetability but just right imho. I run a 700r4 trans with a corvette 2075 rpm stall converter. 3.42 rear gear. 15x8 corvette rallys all around with bfg 235-60-15 tires (not enough in the back for sure !)

block > 1968 427 4 bolt main bored .060. has low block fill.
crank > scat forged 4.25 stroke
rods > eagle h-beam 6.385 lg
pistons > 10.5:1 srp
heads > edlebrock rpm oval ports
cam/components > comp cam xs290s-10 ft solid lifter, crane solid lifters, comp .080 ht pushrods, magnum roller tip rockers.
intake > weiand stealth
carb > 850 dp (dont even think about a 750 vs for this beast !)
ignition > msd street fire hei dist/cdi ignition box. (cheap route but it works)

if you have done the math you can see I now have a 496 stroker motor. I run an engine oil cooler on it since it has the low block fill. this (low block fill) was a HUGE concern for me prior to investing but have discovered this also keeps the water temp low when cruising (160-180 degrees). use an oil temp gage and dont shower down on it until the oil reaches around 200 degrees.

motor has a very sassy idle but does fine with the aformentioned torque converter.. revs like a small block but has the killer low end torque we all know only comes from a big block....
havent taken it to the track but if the thick black prints (thru all 4 gears) it leaves on the pavement are any indication it should do quite well with some big ol slicks on it. the cam is ideal for a serious street car....hope this helps....motor on !!

SOUNDS GOOD just sold my 91 Notchback with a smallblock dart based motor 460ci 700 hp ran 9.86 @ 138 on motor with race gas. It was definitely on the edge but I drove it to car meets on the street. Just didnt like $10.00 + a gallon. Im used to running a built car. Just want the most power out of the 427 block and still run 93 octane. Even if I have to run a couple of gallons of 110 sunoco that wouldnt be bad. I also thought a 572 or 502 but like the idea of running a 427. by the way the car is a 4speed car with a 373 in the back. thanks again

I am running a 12.8:1 compression 427 on the street with E85 fuel.
See the video in my signature for how she runs.
Here is the build-up:
factory 4-bolt main block
factory foprged steel crank
aftermarket I-beam rods
.100" over 12.8:1 SRP pistons
Solid roller .585 lift and 280+ degrees duration at .050 (lots of duration)
Brodix RR oval ports
Weiand Team-G manifold
AED E85 carb 950cfm
MSD ignition
I ran a 10.96 @ 123mph with 3.73 rear gears (with a poor tune-up)
E85 is around $2 a gallon here in Illinois.....I have been running it for 3 years and LOVE it.

Well my 427 isnt pushing 700HP but its about 500 at the crank. It is a street pounder for sure.

60 over 427 (439)
Steel 396 crank
TRW L2268F pistons
plasma moly rings
Lunati custom grind solid flat tappet cam W/ Micro polished lifters
Cam specs are 243/251@50 586/600 lift on a 107 LSA
Brodix RR 115 CNC chamber 2.25 intake 1.88 exh. (thanks wolfplace)
Springs are 150# seat 380# open set up at 1.90 good for 650 lift
CR with Zero deck block .039 gasket will be 10.97 -1
Thumb rods W/ARP wave lock bolts
weind stealth intake
950HP by Partick prosystems
MSD 6A box
1 3/4 headers
turbo 400
3500 stall
best et so far is 11.79 @ 116

With better traction it should run 11.6

It actually has exellent street maners and frys the tires at will.

Gene who , me, I got a 427 in my 69SS396 and I love it. Don't really know how much hp.
Maybe 425 ?????? but it sure is a lot of fun. Maybe after I get all the drive train put back together i'll find a chassis dyno around here and see what my numbers are.
I know I could do alot more to the engine and make more power, a project for another time.
