I was looking for the best YF3 heavy Chevy registry? Who has it and where?
I was trying to decode my 1971 YF3 Chevelle and register it. I would also like to see how many legit YF3 Chevelle there are left. I know they made aprox 5000 YF3 heavy chevy's in 1971 and aprox 20,000 SS in 1971. My inital thoughts are the Heavy Chevy is much more rare than the Super Sport since they made 5000 compared to 20,000 ss models. |

Welcome to TC.........You have a great car, I owned a documented 72 HC with a 454 engine swap until about 3 or 4 years ago. I miss that car even today.
I have never heard of a registry for Heavy Chevy's. I know you will need some original documentation to prove it's real. Because YF3 was an option on a 134 model in 1971, the VIN will not have the information needed. I think in 1971 there were about 6700 HC optioned Chevelles sold. Pictures would be nice................

I don't know of any registry for Heavys either. If there was, I would hope it would include the 72's also.

If someone knows how to make the registry, We can use my website for it. Do it for 71 and 72 Heavy Chevys.

Thanks Guys, I was thinking about starting some kind of Heavy Chevy web site, only for legit Heavy Chevys.
I am mad because I cannot fine Heavy Checy door panels anywhere. Mine were cut appart with speaker holes. |

What's wrong with the grill? Maybe I'm missing something, it looks right to me.

It shouldn't have the chrome strips. I cloned this Heavy Chevy to a SS years ago. Thats why it has chrome wheel opening moldings and chrome drip rails moldings. I put it back to a Heavy because I was sick of tired of going to shows and seeing hundreds of 70-72 Chevelles with red/black stripe combos. The original colour is the light green with the light green interior, even the rubber mat floor was green. I kept all the heavy interior except the bench front seat, and rear seat. But I kept the original door panel, almost threw them out. I dyed them black though. So I took out the console and horse shoe shifter, but I left the buckets in. Its a 307 / powerglide car.

Dave, are you referring to a 72? Sorry, I thought we were talking about 71's. Here is a vintage photo ad showing the chrome on a 71.

I was going by this info.
The RPO – YF3 option was offered to the public on the base model Chevelle at a total cost of $142.20. Production of the 1971 Heavy Chevy was only 6,727 and only 9,508 for 1972. If ordered, the Heavy Chevy option added the following items to a base model Chevelle; Domed (non-functional) hood with hood pins here is mine Blacked out grill and headlight bezels Special body stripes running the length of the car (black or white) – See note below - Decals displaying “Heavy Chevy” placed on the hood, trunk lid and fenders Special interior door panels with white stripes for 71 & wood grain stripes for 72 14” x 6” egg-crate style rally wheels without trim rings with bright lug nuts & special center caps Note: Choice of either black or white stripes available except when vinyl roof cover or black or white painted roof was specified.

Hmmm. I always thought that meant the inside grill was blacked out, but not the trim around the grill
Like this car with the silver grill...![]() Most 71 Heavy Chevys I have seen have the silver trim. Dunno ![]() Here's mine:

I think the grill still has the argent silver cove area, just not the application of the stainless trim. Also for '71 the headlight bezel and around that should be black.
