![]() I have been to the Dynomax website and actually went to Moparfest this summer with my bro and dad (mopar guys) and saw the 502 muffler demo live. It was pretty cool, and I love the fact that dynomax mufflers flow really great but I don't really like how they sound... Spintechs and Pypes are what really catch my ear, especially the spintechs. But I see too many 5.0 videos and those cars/videos just sound like tinny noise! there is a video of a guy with a buick with a 464 and spintechs, sounds AMAZING!

WOW thanks for those AWESOME clips! ( I use my sony studio headphone for exhaust clips an dthose were great quality!)Those PYPES sounded NASTY!!! Now only if someone could compare spintechs and pypes on the same engine, I would be so happy! Which mufflers did you end up staying with? If they were the pypes, how are they in the neighbourhood? crusing? any droning? problems with the law? haha I know there was a huge cam/exhaust thread, ( went through it all) but your clips of different muffs on the same engine are really useful!

I have seen your car and it sounds GREAT! what spintechs do you have on it? what size exhaust? x pipe? dumped? your car sounds good. I hear alot of good spintech soundclips, but then I hear alot of bad ones, that sound like high pitched nastiness! I hear alot of them on mustangs with 302s and they sound hORRID! Do they drone at all? I will more than likley be putting these on a small block 350 with a rough cam and vortec heads, so it won't sound as deep as yours What have you had previously you can compare it to? are they too loud? cop problems? Thanks Jake! EDIT: Ok I just found your youtube channel. You have a chopper too! nice! Do the X pipes take out the nasty high pitched clacking sounds and make the car quieter?

It's loud, but not too loud, this is also because it's full length exhaust as well. As far as with my car attracting cops, na. In all honesty though, if I had a newer camaro or mustang that was this loud, I'm sure they would pull me over, I get nothing but compliments from the local police.

Straight through muffs are typically raspy and high pitched. The Pypes Violator and Race Pro are both a straight through design muffler. They have the efficiency of a straight pipe but only the Violator has a chambered tone. The Race Pro is not your typical straight path muffler. It does not create a high pitched tone. It is actually considered quiet and this is due to the unique perforated tube throughout it which is a half inch bigger than the inlet and outlet.

That is the exact info I was looking for! The spintechs I hear sound great on big blocks but iffy on small blocks ![]() I think I will go with the Violators! straight through flow and chambered tone! can't beat that!

Here's a flow-pro, which is like the flowmaster with 2-1/2 and a crossover pipe and Afterburner headers. Only 400hp using a hyd roller efi cam:

I just went through this dilemma, having 10 year old Flowmaster 50's and wanting to upgrade. After TONS of research, I decided on Spintechs originally and they were horrible in my opinion. Very loud, blatty, resonance that would literally shake the entire car at 2500 rpm, and the engine seemed doggy with them. I cut them off and installed new Flowmaster 50 Deltas and it sounds MUCH better. I also added tailpipes and that quieted down the noise significantly, but it doesn't sound nearly as mean any more. Now it just sounds like a normal muscle car.
I also have a friend with an LT4 in a truck and he put my old 50 series mufflers on his truck with no tail pipes, and it sounds almost identical even though the engine size is WAY different and the cam is milder. I think the muffler design, the size of the pipes, and where the exhaust ends are the real factors to look at, not engines. Here is my car with 3" 50 series Flowmasters, ending right before the rear end Here is the exact same engine with Spintech Sportsman Mufflers, also ending right before the rear end. The Spintechs sound good on the video, but it was strange how quickly they go from "cool idle" to Holy Crap, that's a loud obnoxious group of Harleys!" |
