Default 138 vin number concerns

Been reading about people faking SS cars with 138 VIN's
I don't know why the bother, my 69 is a 133 and I have a copy of the original bill of sale from the dealer stating it's a SS.
SS was an option not a model in 69 and some other years or am I wrong ?

138 only matters on 68 and older.

I didn't know that in 1969 the SS option was offered on 6 cylinder (133) Chevelles.

They weren't, all 69 SS cars were big block V8's

Back to the 68 & older "138" cars, if they did a perfect job building one, nobody would even know it was home brewed.
OOPS wrong thread ^

Dave, are you saying the VIN starts with 133 or the trim tag style starts with 133?

So, you have a '69 Chevelle with a 133 VIN and a "copy" of the "original" bill of sale from the dealer assuring you that you have a "real" SS?

To paraphrase Mr. Rogers,
"Can you say...Photo Shop?......sure ya can."

I bought what I beleive to be true 1968 396 SS, 138 VIN number match car. It is really rough but when it finish it will be nice. It still has factory paint and lots of rust. That is my only concern, you could build a 138 car really easy. Unless you have some history on the car such, photos before and after showing the car in it original state with matching vin, engine, trans, and frame, no one could tell the difference.

This maybe a factor in why the 1968 value lags behind other models.

Well, unless the VIN has been swapped, it's real. Do you think people are swapping VINs more these days? I would think with prices coming down that it would be happening less. jmho

As usual, Andy is right
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.
