Default Called ISKY today about our 307 cam topic

Since a lot of you have suggested the ISKY 264 Mega, I called them to ask their opinion (figured I might as well since i have pestered everyone on here and at Crane and Comp). Anyway I told them the subject was a 307 with 305 heads, 600 cfm, and headers and a 2000 stall converter. They said the 264 Mega would work but a regular 270 would also work with a nastier idle. It has 270 duration and 445 lift. Does this one sound like a good option to you as well? Thanks for all yoru help.

i believe they gave you incorrect info ? the 270 mega has .470 lift and 108lsa .I have used alot of these in 350s. they run killer in 9.5-10.25 engines with headers and a 600 carb . they havea nice lope as well , should sound really good in a 307 !

I bought the Voodoo #60102 cam kit for my 283 (292"), 305HO headed engine project.
I've used the Voodoo line of cams before with great results.
This cam is 262/268; 219/227 @.050"; .468/.489 lift w/1.5 rockers; 112 LSA.
Should work very well with this 9.75 CR small block.

They told me to not use the mega 270 just the regular 270. It is part number 201270.

Isky steered you to the "old-school" 270 cam is all and it will be great for you, imho!!

It's actually the cam they sell to compete against the CC 268HE and Crane/Cam Dynamics 272/272 Energizer!

You will be FINE, imho!!

pdq67

PS., and my hopped up, .040" overbore 300hp/327 had the old Crane/Cam Dynamics 272/272 Energizer in it and it ran like a "scalded-dog"!!!!!

Holy crap, the Isky 270? Maybe the same guy that recommended that cam for my 312" SBC back in 1980 is still there!
I lived 15 minutes from Isky in SoCal

I had rod bearing failure on my 427. Had sold a 400, a 350, and some other stuff...so only had the 307 shortblock left. My pal threw the shortblock into the trunk of his ROADRUNNER and took it to the shop for me. The 2V heads also. Just my luck, someone wanted my 2V heads so I upgraded to #462 Humper heads 1.94/1.50 and got the shortblock back 40-over. Cam, Isky 270!

Thing was, the engine went into my 68 Nova that had a fiberglass hood, 10-inch converter and 4.56 gears! The cam pulled to 6000 no issue and many a folk got a good look at my rear bumper even though they had lots more engine.

LSA = Lobe Separation Angle. (#10 in the pic above from CompCams) Basically, the angle (in cam degrees) between peak lift on the exhaust valve and peak lift on the intake valve. (click on the pic for some good info from Crane)

Smaller (tighter) LSA's mean the intake and exhaust valve peaks are closer together. For a given set of lobe profiles, this means more overlap and a nastier sounding idle. Tighter LSA's also tend to have peakier torque curves with peak torque at a higher RPM. Larger (wider) LSA's have the opposite effect. 106-108 is on the tight end of the "typical" scale, 112-114 is on the wide end of "typical".

Fwiw, my 1982 Isky cat. say's the 270 HL is spec'd;

270/216, 108/108, .445" lift.

And the 264 Mega from their e-cat. just now is spec'd;

264/214, 108/108, .450" lift.

Imho, the 264 will midrange T a schosh better and the 270 will Hp rpm a schosh better so take your pick. But, all said and done, they are darn close!

And the 270 Mega is spec'd;

270/221, 108/108, .465" lift!
