Default My 1970 Build Sheet

I don't know how I missed it, but today I was poking around in the pile of parts under the barn when a piece of paper caught my eye. I found the build sheet for the car!! It was in the bottom seat cushion actually crimped into the springs on what is the driver side of the lower cushion!! I couldn't believe I had over looked it when I took the car apart initially.

Here are some pictures.

I'm scanning in the build sheet right now and will update the post with that picture. I need to figure out what everything means now. Not that my car is rare or anything, but it is neat to have this info. I had lost hope in finding the build sheet after initially missing it when I removed the interior.

*EDIT* - Here's the scan:

Neat find and kudos for documenting the location as well!

Most of the numbers/letters in the upper blocks are relatively meaningless now but they indicate the broadcast code of items needed to build the car. The items in the big block #107 at the bottom document some std equipment as well as options on the car; such as L48 350-4 engine, M38 TH350 transmission, bucket seats, console, etc.

Block 43 is the trim number (should match trim tag) 796 indicating dark green bucket seats, block 44's 45 G paint code (also on trim tag) for Green Mist paint color with dark green vinyl top, - means no D88 stripes and 19 is wheel color, black. RPO D33 remote driver mirror isn't too common an option...only about 12% of 1970 Chevelles came with them and only about 5% came with the UM1 radio/tape system.

Nice to have...

Thanks for the info Dale!!

Do any of those codes tell the hood that was installed from the factory? Mine has a domed hood on it now, but I don't know if it was factory or not.

It wouldn't have had a domed hood from the factory. The domed hood was only installed on SS optioned Chevelles.

Gotcha. Show's I have a lot to learn!!

Is there anything that I could get for your tech cd you are putting together?

*EDIT* - A little update... I found that the dealership who originally ordered my Chevelle is still in business. I just emailed them. I'm not sure how well these types of requests are met these days, but I asked them for any information they are willing to share on the car. I would love to find the original bill of sale. I doubt a window sticker would be in their hands... I'm sure it's old hat to some of you, but this is exciting to me. I'm finally getting the history of a car that I've owned for 14 years!!

To bump this up again, I just got off the phone with the dealership (H&H Chevrolet) that originally sold the car. Not only were they able to find the original bill of sale, but they are going to be sending me the additional carbon copies from the original along with a copy of the original BOS (keeping the original top sheet for their records)!

I am going at finding the history in both directions, trying to follow it through from when the car was originally sold as well as back through the person I purchased it from.

That's great to hear about the dealer sharing documents on your car. I tried that years ago with the dealer that sold my Chevelle. They wouldn't even try to find anything. I offered cash, but no luck. Thankfully the second owner came up with some good documents he had kept.

Yeah! I would definitely be supporting H&H Chevrolet if I lived close. I talked with the customer service manager for a good half hour this afternoon. He is going to email me a list of GM approved suppliers for parts that he has used on various restorations that he has done.
