Hi
I have a -70 Malibu SS. The reason for asking, is that I have changed insurance company (IC). I will meet an representative, valuer, from my new IC next week, and would like a hint what you "proffesionals" think about it. So my question is ... How much would I Have to pay for a similar car in the US ? I´m from Sweden btw... MY estimated value of the car is somewhere around 45 000 $ To high ? To low ? These are the facts : Engine and Trans. rebuilded (2500 miles) Original 396", now 454" , so engine don´t match New paint 2007 Total new interior 2008 Engine comp + trunk + undern. restaurated 2008 Also have original rims, wheels VIN : 136370B1777286 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 2 Awards 2008 : "Hottest American Car" & "Hottest Car pre. 1988" ![]() Awarded 3:rd place ( "USA New Classic Car" ) at the biggest Custom and Performance Show in Scandinavia march 2008. (100 000 visitors) ![]() Sorry for my gramatic errors, but I hope the presented facts are good enought for you to give me a hint of the US. market. New paint under, restored the wireing, cluster refinished, adding a tachometer. Replaced all lamps * Completely res. of center consol. * New stearing wheel, headrests * New airvent knobs, window handles, seatcrome,, interior light * " New " Am-Fm stereo, ( has been taken out from a -70 Chevelle * Completely renovation of trunk * All new weather strip * Brakes rear. New hydralic cylinder, lathed ( ? ) drums, pads * Original rims sandblastered and repainted * New wheels American Racing Torq Thrust II * Restored / renovated under, No welding needed, new "Bodycoat" * New exhaust system. Welded Built by myself ( from headers ----> ) * Engine compartement. All tubes replaced, new paint (black), engine new paint (headers removed/sandblastered, intake manifold / distibuor / starter a.s.o taken of ) New plugs, ignition wires, airfilter, wiper washer tank, hood/ engine sound isolation, vacuum unit + solenoid to the Cowl function, electrical wirering "cleaned up " (lose ends and so on fixed ) New heavy duty batery * New headlights, lenses turn. sign, cowl vents. * New ministarter * New fuelpum * New battery tray I have spent MANY hours of reduceing the sound inside the car. I don't think 45K is to high at all. Insurance value is not necessarily what you could sell the car for but what it would cost you to replace it, in it's current condition. If you have 50K into the car, insure it for the same to protect yourself. Being from Sweden, I'm sure there is a significant shipping cost should you have to replace this car so I would factor that into the equation as well. It's only an insurance premium, don't be penny wise and dollar foolish.

I agree with Mike. Value doesn't equal dollars spent. Especially in this market.

Thanks for the answers. As you mentioned I have to multiply the dollar with 1,4 to get the real cost . There are custom fees, VAT, registration costs, tansport, handling fees and so on. The total will be around 63 000 dollars if I have to find a car thatīs i the same status as mine in the US.
(Based on 45 000 $ ) |
