Default Anyone ever use Elgin Cams?

Im looking at getting an ELGIN cam that is a real good setup for my engine. I was wondering what you all thought about them? Im getting a flat tappet hydraulic cam and dont want it to go flat.

If the specs are accurate and they fit your engine build than there should be no problem. as far as it going flat, there are no guarantees. Read the stickys and follow them. BTW this is why I have gone with roller in my engines, either a roller block or converting it for a factory set up and not the high dollar retro lifter's.

Elgin cams are Great Budget cams. I have used a few HYD in BB Chevy's, they sound good and perform well. I will use them again in other builds.

Elgin, Clevite and the old, now Crane, W/B/R line of cams are all good one's although dated in a lot of cases! (Summit's house cams fall in here too!!)....

You install any of them in the engine combination that the cam you picked was meant to run in and it will do find by me even tho there are modern, better power producing cams out there such as the XE and VooDoo lines!

And a 2nd point is that all of them are generally easier on the valve trains so they tend to last longer overall if you make sure nowadays to use a good oil combination for flat-tappet cams!

PS., and fwiw, I have the old Elgin, Clevite and Crane W/B/R lines in my cam cat. stash for reference if anybody need's spec. info on any of them.As well as a bunch more cams too.......

One of the Blueracer lines was a wolverine and before that it was in the Crane Blazer line which came back out a few years ago them switched back to blue racer, They brought it out as Blazer like it was when it was popular and the second time the Crane Blazer cam out it was to compete with the Comp XE

Also, Just to note, a couple of the Crane Cams Z cams were out 20+ years ago, and are aggressive like the XE and VooDoo, Also a fact is some of Harolds cams were that aggressive 20+ years ago but the XE, Z Cams and VooDoo cams have excellent marketing

Butch,

I can't follow this w/ my old cam cats, but I figure you are right.

If you check the older CC cat's you will see where they came right out and said that any of their cams past the Magnum line were for all practical purposes race cams and that their live's were so shortened!!

This may NOT have been said all this way, but to me it was implied by CC and then they brought out their XE line and all of a sudden cam life crap popped up!!

And UDHarold has MANY time's came right out and said point blank that he designed some of his old Ultradyne cams to last up to 100,000 miles and he say's that the one's he did have lasted that long!

Guy's, please think about all this for a bit.
