Hey guys,
Now that I have finally sold my home, and moved out of Houston (YEA!!), I am gearing up to start my build on the 496. It won't be till the end of the year, but I need to check out who will do a good job on the machining of my block, balancing of the assembly, etc. . Does anyone recommend a machine shop in Central Texas (+/- 100 mile radius of Waco)? I also am getting a new tranny from Jakeshoe within the next week or two (Thanks Jake). New MT Streets planted and took out the Jackson Racing TH400. Thanks for all the help.

If he doesn't chime in, you might PM JBird. I believe he's out that way, or there abouts.

I don't know about central TX. I use a machinist in OK. About 80 miles from me but the only one locally I trust except maybe R-M and they have a waiting list and are a bit steeper on price than my guy
![]() I think it is Hahn's in Ft. Worth is also supposed to be good. I've seen some of Kim Barr's work and I can't say anything bad about him either, I think he is on the East side of Dallas. I'm sure there is someone down that way though.

Wildman, Howdy neighbor!
I live between Hewitt and Lorena. I can recommend Mike Barnard Performance, 931 Bays Road, Axtell, Tx. Phone is 822-1526. He does nice work! His shop stays busy. Any questions, just holler! Jeff |

Hot66,
Great to hear that. I heard of him through my father-in-law. But he says that he is so busy, it usually takes a while to get any thing back due to the back log. The motor will be as follows: 2 bolt ARP studded block Scat 4340 Steel Crank (Thanks Wolfplace!) Eagle H-Beam rods with L-19 bolts SRP 142991 Pistons ATI Damper (Thanks Wolfplace!) AFR 305 with CNC 114 cc chamber (Thanks Wolfplace!) Voodoo 60234 Solid Roller (will be sending to Dacaman to verify lobes) Isky Solid Roller EZ Roll Bushing (Thanks Wolfplace!) Performance Racing Warehouse Stainless Rockers Weiand Team G 7622 (Thanks Patrick!) Holley 850 80531 (initially) Carter 172 pump (Thanks Tom B.!) Pertronix HEI JakeShoe TH400 with TSI MS 3400-3700 Stall XHD Converter 12 Bolt Eaton Posi with 4.11 gears. It should be a nice Street/Strip car.

Walter,
If you don't mind the drive from Hewitt to Irving, I can make another recommendation. He can usually turn around stuff in a couple of weeks or quicker (His motto is, if I don't turn it around, I don't get paid!) and does REAL good work. Prices aren't the cheapest, but are very fair. Long Racing Engines - Ask for Max (Long) http://www.longracingengines.com Max does my stuff.......tell him I sent you. Mike Barnard does excellent work as mentioned.

Sorry, I'm about 3 hours west of Waco so I don't know of anyone over there. Sounds like you are getting some good advice anyway!

Mike and his guys were honest about the backlog, but they got my jobs out when they said the would. You should see his shop. Take a bib! LOL!
