Thanks Shawn. I don't believe we even tried with/without the spacer. We dynoed 2 BBC's that day. We've seen over and over that a 1" spacer is worth a little power on these types of engines. Some of the best spacers we've used are a 2" tapered, and a two piece 2" anti-reversion setup from Reher Morrison. I don't have room under my hood for a 2" spacer, so I have only run the 1" and a 1/2" with no noticable difference.
By the way, my vote for your "mostly street" 498 is the 1040 cfm 4150 and a matching 4150 manifold. I just think it will be an all around better carb for a street/strip deal. 80% race and I would do the dominator. My 2 cents.

It's something more like this, but for a Dominator. "Super Sucker" style.






R/M Spacer

This is the 2 piece RM spacer we have had good results with as well. It's 1.5" not 2". These things cost almost as much as an intake though! I have seen maybe 10hp over an open 1" spacer. Not worth $150+ to me.
