Default cowl induction

on my 72 chevelle with cowl induction hood the "flap" on it is always in up position and looks like it has a connection for a vacuum line on it but i dont know what it originally would go to.......any ideas?

There should be a vacuum pod (probably silver) attached under the hood and connected to the outer flapper door. The pod will have a nipple on it. Connect a rubber vacuum hose to the pod nipple and connect the other end to your manifold vacuum line using a "t". The flapper should be open when the engine is off, closed when the engine is running normally, and then it should open once again when you are driving and then mash the pedal.

In addition to the pod, there's also a small check valve. Flap is down when the engine is running, until manifold vacuum drops enough for it to open - ie, under full throttle.

Thanks for the cowl input. I just bought my 71 and I wasn't sure why it always jumped up when I shut the engine off. I feel much better about it. How far open should it open at full throttle/when engine is off. Mine seems to be opened at diffrent degrees each time I shut it off. It is a neat feature I might add though.

Great video! My neighbor has one of those Lotus' -- ugly little cars in my opinion.
