Default correct 1967 sbc valve cover for 283/327

Okay here my question goes. I have looked and tried to put this together but I am unable. Can someone put these covers in year or application order. I am looking for correct stock valve covers for 283.

1 Chevy script valve covers non staggered bolts
2 v valve covers (327 300hp)
3 v valve covers no inner v on center box
4 totally flat covers no oil or pcv holes

I have these 4 variations of covers in my possession and I am thinking number 4 is correct for my 67 283...right.

if someone can put these things in order I would appreciate it. I see the script on cars up to 67 which I do not believe to be correct. Show me the light and the years, thanks
Jeff

My Chevelle's original 283 had #1 on your list - I'm certain they were original. I bought the car in '88 from a guy that used it as a driver.

Your #1 are correct for a 67 Chevelle w/283-2bbl engine. I believe 1957 was the last year for staggered bolt pattern.

I think staggered bolt valve covers were used thru early '59.

This really puzzles me I thought the script valve covers went away before 67. I know that 59 and earlier had the staggered bolts. So I have 4 different sets of covers straight across bolt holes that had to be put on different Chevy engines between 59-67. In 68 Chevy went to oil fill holes in Sb valve covers. I know the "v" 327 300hp valve covers that I have came on some novas but where chromed. Was there diff covers for performance applications?

I have photos of numerous 67 Chevelles with the 283 and most have script covers. Those that don't have other mods like aftermarket chrome units, chrome air cleaners, etc.

Dale,
Thanks for the info. It appears the script are correct. I was hoping the plain flats were an option. I just think the script look a littled dated on the motor. Makes me think old impala for some reason. No offense to anyone. The 283 motor is gonna be on a stand in my garage while a 396 sits in the car anyway, I dont know why I care about it so much.
Jeff
thanks for the buildsheet credit

The script valve covers are correct for the '67 model year. ALL '67 small block cars used the script covers, even the L 79 cars had script covers but they were chrome.

The script valve covers are correct. Mike responded that the covers were flat with no script. He's right, considering he's in Canada. The Canadian '67's came without the script because the small blocks were also going into Pontiac, Acadians and Beaumonts.

Learned something here. I've been around since these cars were new and feel that I have a strong knowledge of the small block details as it applies to original cars. The smooth valve covers were throwing me for a loop since my recollection was that the smooth non script covers appeared in 1968. The '68 covers would have been vented for a pvc which meant that they had holes in them. The '68 engines were the first year small block that was not machined with a "road draft" vent hole behind the distributor. The '67 covers had no vent holes. Your explanation about the Canadian cars adds new information about non script, non vented valvle covers. Thanks for the information......never too old to learn sumpthin!!!!
