Default hooking up internal regulated alternator with external regulator in place?

How do you hook up an internal regulated alt to a external regulated system with keeping the external regulator in place?

You want to make it look like it is still externally regulated... I have not done it personally, but I have seen it done.... Take a old mech VR, remove the guts, since there are no terminals inside, wires will have to be soldered to connect the tabs inside the VR. All you are doing is jumping one wire to another. Jumper the brown to the blue, and the white to the red (may be orange on some cars). After soldering, check the terminals with a ohm meter to be sure none have continuity to ground or to the wrong wire. At the alternator, remove the plug for the externally regulated alternator off the wires and replace it with a internally regulated plug. (Auto zone has a replacement plug for a internally regulated alternator although they are white, americanautowire has black ones or get a original from a bone yard 73-late 80s GM's) When replacing the wires in the new plug make sure the blue goes to terminal one and the white to terminal 2 at the internally regulated alternator (there are markings on the back of alternator to show which terminal is which) Thats it, other than looking at the plug at the alternator, it will look like it is still externally regulated, and since there is no cutting of the original wires, you could even go back to externally regulated. Hope this helps.
