Default How to remove 67 SS dash.

Can anyone share some light on the ramification of removing the dash.
I purchased this vehicle 2 years ago and if I don't start restoring it soon my grandkids will be enjoying it instead of me... Shooting for completion in 2007 so I can make the Maryland and Tenn. shows.... Thanks for your help....

Not sure what you mean by ramifications. It's pretty easy to do. There are a row of phillips head screws under the dash pad, on an each end of the dash and a few bolts from underneath the dash. You'll need to drop the steering column to get the dash out. Remove the fuse panel from the bulkhead connector and the wiring will pretty much come out with it.

Really quite simple. And pretty much self explanitory.
Just take it slow and you will have it out in no time.
pretty much like zeke67 said

Done it a few times myself. Whether you plan on removing the entire dash or just the speedo/gauge assembly, here's a couple things I found to make it easier.

1. Disconnect battery naturally.
2. Remove steering wheel. This makes access to everything SO much easier.
3. Remove the bezels for the ignition, headlamps, etc. I've found it easier to disconnect/unplug the ignition wiring, headlamp switch wiring, wipers and lighter if you carefully remove the speedo housing so you can get your hands behind the dash...it's tight back there.
4. Take some masking tape and pen to mark and tape which wires go where - lights, high beam indicator, lighter, etc. to make reassembly much easier.

If you're removing the entire dash you'll probably want to drop the steering column as well. Removing the heater (and/or AC) controls out the back will make getting to the radio easier as well. Remove glove box liner and door to save wrestling those around as well.

Actually, I perfer to pull the entire steering column out with the wheel attached, so I dont have to deal with re-positioning back on in the correct position. Thats exactly what I did with my 66SS. It looks like it wont clear when you keep going back all the way to the back of the seat but you can wrestle it out.

I had my dash out a few years ago for a re-paint but plan to pull it out to do all the electrical this time. Just not sure when it will happen. I should also clean up and replace the insulation, and heater core housing.

The GM Chassis Service Manual has a step by step description on how to remove the dash. Simple and easy. Zeke has the right idea, pull the wiring with it. I'd leave the heater controls coneccted. Just slide the bezel back thru the dash opening. It's actually pretty easy.

You should pick up that book and the factory assembly manual. Best $20 you'll spend.
