Default High gear timing retard

Does anyone have any experience with these? I am putting the start retard with the single stage timing retard, for ease of starting with the locked out dist. I have heard that on a n/a motor, not a nitrous motor, that pulling timing out upstairs helps make power. Has anyone seen this first hand and how much timing did you take out. I want to run the car at 0 first and then try it from there.

"Back in the day" they used to run a dual point distributor and used the second set only to retard in 4th gear. Some guys said it was worth a tenth or two. Never did it in any of our cars. My guess is that there's a writeup on the Internet on how its done. Everything else is out there..........

I made one using a factory dual point dist and an early CD ign. I could find no difference in the performance but it was a bracket car and it didn't have a dead kill engine in it.

That's mainly why I got mine too, but I was curious about using the other stage or just forget it and leave it at 0.

i dont know if we are talking about hte same thing but i am using a timing computer from MSD with my locked out dist. i can adjust timng curve base and total with it and it has a place to plug modlues in to pull timing . i started with the 2 degree module in it . and went to the 4 degree ( 4 degrees out of my total) and the car ran smoother when crusing but did not pull as hard on the big end ( i turn mine 7400) good luck

We run a crank trigger (locked timing) and the MSD-8982 retard box. We take 4 degrees out in 5th gear and see about .2 mph improvement and negliglible et improvement (i.e., change is within the degree of error for the samples).
