engine specs? Rear gear? What you already have? your goals for the car? Usually the base th350 is perfect.

if your asking about trannys i think for a mild small block th350 for an auto is fine , though behind the stroker i cracked two cases and eventually went to a turbo 400 wich i think if your going to go street strip its the way to go . 4 speeds are great but there are some weak ones out there . a muncie will put up with abuse but it seemed when i started to hook is when it broke (m20) .m22 rockcrushers seem to be tough but expensive and hard to find parts for. . i went to a super t10 out of an older trans am (26 spline input shaft) and it seems to work well . i had a cast iron three speed that i couldnt kill , since it had no fourth in it i suppose it left room for larger stronger gears from the factory ? but i still prefer a 4 speed with reverse in the tail . no saginaw four speeds they make hemselves into soup the first good launch

If racing and sticky tires are in your future, then consider a automatic. They are far easier on parts than a stick car and are more tolerant of a bad setup. A stick car needs a good suspension, no wheel hop and bullit proof parts.

But if the street is your thing with a blast at the track every now and then you can't beat a stick for fun factor. Parts for any muncie are available new, not hard to find at all. There are also new gear sets for muncies now, M22 wide ratio and a M21 wide, not just another M20.
Every part of a Muncie had been reproduced and most of the new parts are much stronger than the originals.
