Default Brembo 13" Brake Upgrade - Performed Cheap

I thought I would give you guys some pictures to drool over and spice up the brakes and suspension forum.

Attached are pics of a very CHEAP (yes, I said cheap…$150 per caliper loaded with pads and hardware cheap) Brembo caliper that I received in the mail last friday.

After being tired of searching classifieds and ebay for some cheap brembos to throw on my car I found these via GM that I could swap in place of my C5 13” setup. I have to say this…I love Cadillac V-series cars now!

I was hoping they would be a radial mount caliper, but they aren’t. No biggie, but they do offer staggered piston design (BTW, these are four pot fixed calipers in case you haven’t noticed ). And front just looking at the pistons you can tell they are going to afford more clamping force to be applied to the rotor.

It’ll be this weekend before I can work on this setup and I’ll do like I did with my C5 swap 3 years ago in that I’ll show you guys my progress as it happens. I'll also update my website to keep things in order.

This shouldn’t be that difficult as some of the dimensions I can tell are going to carry over….don’t you just love GM interchangeability?

Stay tuned...

Joe

Waiting for your report to determine if they are a better alternative to the Wilwood forged Superlite series.

Maybe I have gotten the wrong impression... but my reservation with Wilwood is that they seem to be targeted towards drag race applications. I question their ability to take the more prolonged heat and usage of road or road race applications.

NOOOO, the "drag kits" that Summit and Jegs sell are absolute junk, but if you go to them direct they have some of the best brakes available. The 6-pot 14" kit they put together will defienatley stop the most heated top side run. The slower (only 150MPHish) Winston West cars almost all run Wilwoods as do most of the Trans-am cars. the Forged Billet Superlite is a pretty nice caliper, very little bridge flex to eliminate pad knock back and pretty lite for a big 4-pot caliper.

So Joe, you think these will outperform the old PBR C5 calipers?

The C4 13" HD rotors & calipers fit perfectly inside the 17" TTII. So do the C5 Calipers with the C4 HD rotors. I would go with the second setup. There are brakets available.

This could be a very nice upgrade. Does anyone know the piston bores and if the pads swap with any of Brembo's other calipers used by other cars?

The Brembo Big Reds (Off of a Porsche 993TT) on my C5 are amazing and the rotors are the same size as stock. A big step up up over a PBR 2 piston caliper.

Theo, I think he meant where did you get the Brembo calipers.

The Brembo calipers are standard equipment on the new cadddy hot rod. Check out some GM vendors for availability.

I've got a c5 and would be very interested in this swap as well. Did you use these calipers on your c5 before? I wonder if it would bolt up on stock brackets? I'll be looking forward to pics on your Chevelle. Those calipers look sweet!
