Hi I just joined this great group, I am just getting back into the street machine scene after 15 years (kids) anyway I just purchased a 427 long block on Ebay and I am going to swap out the Elgin mystery cam for a #60204 Lunati Voodoo, the current cam and crankshaft gears timing installation dots are both at the up 12:00 position, is this correct? do I install the Lunati cam the same way? having replaced a bbc cam in the early 80"s I thought it was 12:00 crank gear dot and 6:00 cam gear dot facing each other, thanks its been a while!

It really doesn't matter until you want to put the distributor in. If you turn it over to get the cam gear to 6, the crank gear should be at 12 if they are both dead on at 12 now. Cam gear revolves once for every 2 revolutions of the crank gear. I would just get it to 6 and 12, then set in your distributor where you want it.

Much easier to line up if they are at 6 & 12 as they are together
In this position you are on #6 firing, #1 overlap
One turn of the crank puts you at #1 firing with the dots at 12 & 12 ;)
