Im looking for inputs on spraying Line X on my firewall, inter-fenders, core support. has anyone does this or why not.

If you have the Elcamino on a 4x4 frame and will be taking it mudding.... Go for it. Otherwise... I agree with cheveslakr.

If you are going to spend time in prepping these areas you should just paint it a nice satin black. Also, line-x is a pretty thick material. I have never seen it lay down in a nice smooth fashion. Yes, it will give you extra protection, but why would you need that? It isn't a bed of a truck. I think you can spend that money on something that will add value you to your car, because most guys would see that as a big "No, NO"!

It won't give you any rust protection, just a skid/scrape protector. It will lift if not properly prepped over time and once it does, your firewall is garbage, you'll have a heck of a time trying to remove it and do it right.

It holds dust, sucks to try and clean up, will need their clearcoat in order not to fade, I dont know how high heat effects it. Lifting wouldnt be an issue outside of the annoyance of having to have it redone if it lifts (pulling your engine) since there is a lifetime warranty.

But I can attest, with full confidence, that it will look like ass...wrapped in hell and covered with "that sucks" sauce...with a side of braised "redneck engineered"

I've seen many people do the bottom of their car, inside of the wheel wells even the trunk with linex or similar- all with great results- however i don't think i would want it in the engine bay...

Also isn't it flammable if exposed to high heat or flame? I remember once somebody told me it was oil based.

I also remember some other brand of bed liner that was not based on petroleum but was chemically based and bonded on a molecular level so if you wanted to remove it sometime down the road you couldn't without removing part the metal it was attached to.

OUCH! Chemically bonded & pulling metal if you remove. I don't think it is something you want to do 72Elcaminoman. Just like was posted earlier it will all lift if it isn't prepped correct, so just prep and PAINT.

I just did my firewall, inner fenders, rad support, etc. in eggshell black and I am extremely pleased with the look.

That being said, I do remember a couple of very high end Mustangs at a Year One Experience event a while back that had Line-X on the firewall and dog house, and I gotta tell ya, looked really good. They had a road race toughness look that really worked on the boxy dog house structure.

Would I do it on the smoother inner fenders of a chevelle? Nah, I prefer the satin black. Would I ever berate someone for doing it to their ride? Nope. I've seen it work.

I see no benefit other than a rough texture thats a pita to clean and wont come off if you ever decide to change direction. There isnt a whole lot of stuff impacting your firewall on the road so I dont even see a benefit of protection from anything. Oil leaches into it and will show for a while and isnt all that eassy to clean off. The stuff dulls out, it grabs dust, it holds cloth and pieces of everything. It blows out of my truck bed. It aint gonna blow off your firewall and again....why do you need that kind of protection on your firewall, especially given the paint on mine seemed to last ok for some 40 years. Line X doesnt stop dents. If you want heat and sound protection then do it on the INSIDE, save the trouble, the aggravation, resale and value loss.....and guys like me walking up to your car at a show and testing durability by rubbing my car keys across your firewall.

I think its a shortcut - prep, shoot that stuff and call it overwith forever with a lifetime warranty. And resale - tough sell because you can really hide problems with the stuff and cannot easily remove to check and nowhere near correct. So you have a hard sell AND lose value.

I really and honestly do not see any positives in it. Unless, of course, you have a bad firewall, rust, bondo and just want to level it out and shoot lineX to hide it all. Which is what my first impression would be when I saw something like that.

Thanks for all the inputs. I was lonely thinking of it because i can have it done cheap. My buddy does it. I've seen several cars with a Black and Gray spray on the fire wall and inter fenders. what is it....

Joerob727, do you think you can find any pics? It would be interesting to see. I guess it boils down to what you want out of the car too. I am sure that the job done on the cars for Yearone looked good. How thick was it sprayed? Also, I am sure that the people spraying & doing the prep work really took their time.
