IMO it would be fun to have an authentically styled sheet but with these obviously impossible later GM codes there. That way, no possibility of a future owner cheating someone, but a great conversation starter at car shows. I would be fun but harmless...I think.

But I wonder what Dean thinks?
I think that would be cool myself.

I also like the regular reproductions as long as they are not trying to fool folks into thinking they are original, such as making them look aged.
Like I said, that just makes everyone think that they are ALL probably fake.

When somebody says "I have the original ***", everybody thinks "yeah right, uh hu, so does everyone else"

Yeah...Some guy who lovingly and carefully preserved a (rare) real set of documents gets no respect andloses money. Meanwhile, the slimeball fakirs cash in on general ignorance.

Kind of like the rash of faked Fender guitars and faked vintage amps that have flooded the market the past fifteen years. They degrade prices on my REAL ones, and dilute the market.

Funny you mentioned that, I actually made one up for my brother for his 1982 Harley Davidson Sportster Anniversary Bike changing the logos of course to Harley and listing all the factory options with their respective Harley part numbers....Don't think anyone is going to think that is real......
There are always going to be wavering opinions about these, as most people do want them aged to look period while others want them looking brand new and pristine.
It does become a little suspect when you get into the very scarce vehicles, i.e Copo, Nickey, L72's, etc and they want bill of sales, window stickers, and on Vettes, tank stickers also.
There has to be a point where we as reproducers draw the line and refuse to create these documents without substantial proof of authenticity. This also falls along the same line as re-stamping blocks and various other changes to casting numbers.

Frank, an excellent question and the reason I haven't publicized price yet is because I think it's important that people know what they are getting for their money so they can decide if the value is worth it. We are updating our website right now because it's antiquated and was geared only toward full sized cars. There is some detail about the stickers on the site but many things have been updated since and it's important information for people to make an intelligent decision. What I can tell you is that the most I have charged thus far for Corvette aged stickers is $125. We have all the information programmed for the full size so any others take great research and perpetual communication. Some take weeks some take a few days, also depends on how much information is being provided to us.
Just as an example, there are numerous plants that produced the full size cars. Very few of the plants completed them exactly the same. Then you have 3 different releases of price points during the year so based on the production date of the vehicle it may be priced differently. Let me get a little more fanatical here, the asterisk to the left of the verbiage: Based on excise tax rate or reduced excise tax rate, is turned at different rotations based on certain plants. Now I highly doubt many people would observe such a thing. Lastly, we had the blanks made over 20 years ago and they sit in a box in my basement, we had them made with the original pin feed on both sides with perforations along with perforations between the top and bottom stickers. So, they even smell old and that is not something easily done with normal aging processes. Once we get the web page updated I will attach it to my signature and list in classifieds.

So you plan on selling 'aged' reproduction window stickers? Will they note that they are reproduction or not?

Here's a question for you 'window sticker experts". Did the 66-67 El Camino even have a window sticker back then? I've never seen an original one for an El Camino. Even today, the Monroney sticker is NOT required by law for trucks, but is put on vehicles at the discretion of the manufacturer. Wouldn't it be hard to make a repop of something that never existed?

I've heard that no El Caminos got window stickers in any year. I suppose a reproduction could be made for car shows and such - as long as it's marked as REPRODUCTION.

Another very good question Dale and this is where the question of deception probably comes from. I have not noted on any aged stickers thus far that these are reproductions, imitations, etc. I am also not sure where on the window sticker I would be able to place a statement of that nature without detrimentally effecting the overall look of the window sticker. I imagine I could place that vertically on either side of the pin feeds. The only thing I have done thus far is require proof or documentation for the highly optioned or very rare cars that some have asked for window stickers for and have turned down some requests also. There are some other variables, such that the pin feeds are still attached which is not the case on originals you may find out there, you do however only see the perforations where they were attached but I guess anyone could tear those off. I think I am a little torn over this one and cannot honestly commit either way. The bottom line is this in all fairness: as long as all others in this business are refraining from aging their stickers than I would also, however, I will not be placed at a competitive disadvantage. Until then, if anyone would like a notation of that sort on their window sticker, all they have to do is ask. Lastly, I get requests for about 50% of them to be aged.

This might help to answer your question as to how a reproduction may be determined. How are you planning to print the info on the sticker? What kind of device/printer will you use? Back in the 60s -80's the primary type of printer used by manufacturers was the big old mainframe line printers that used a cloth type of ribbon. Dot matrix and laser printers did not exist. If you examine an original sticker, you can see the weave of the fabric ribbon in the print, along with some of the waviness that comes from the printer's train of characters. I doubt that many of those types of printers are still in operation today ( i.e IBM 1403, etc). Anyone who has seen an original would not be fooled by a newly produced original regardless of the 'aged' paper stock. IMHO, do your best to make the repo stickers for the folks who want them and do with them as they please. Only the unknowing will be fooled.

Easy, create a transparent .png file like this and overlay it on the window sticker and you put it in plain sight where somebody can't remove it or gloss over it.

Maybe even put your website URL on it so others could order them too.

For me, personally, I find any reproduction documentation, trim tags, restamped engine blocks, transmissions, etc. offensive that's trying to be passed off as real with 'aging,' 'seat spring stains,' etc. to appear real.

Not saying you're doing this to help people deceive others but it's no more 'right' than a reproduction birth certificate, high school/college/other diploma, SSN card, etc.

As one poster noted they'd like to have one with what their car has now with no intention of ever trying to pass off a mid 60s car as original with a 454. A (clearly marked) reproduction window sticker with the way the owner's car is now - maybe even with aftermarket equipment - someone might spring for $20-$25 a pop. There will still be people out there that have perceptions of some things and seeing it on paper will 'make it so' in their minds regardless of how wrong it really is.

Just saying the idea may go over well in the Corvette community but I don't think it'd sit well with the Chevelle community and you'd wind up getting a bad rep. and even cause a few good, legit cars to come under scrutiny.

Dale,
Just to clear one thing up, The Vette guys are ready to hang you, place you in front of a firing squad, push you off a cliff, run you over and poison you at the mere mention on their forum of reproduction window stickers. That of course still does not deter others from happily ordering and showing off the finished product. Same as most other Chevrolet forums, you have people that are vehemently against the idea and other that would love to have something that they only dreamed of before. This is not my business, this is nothing more than a hobby for me and I have not advertised nor really attempted to turn it into anything other than a hobby.
I do appreciate everyone's input and wanted to get a temperature of what other feel about the whole process.

Thanks much,

Paul

I like the idea of a 'watermark' stating they were 'novelty' or 'non-original' because there is always someone out there that will try to use it in a sale. Lots of varying views on this and clones issue. For me I love the look of the SS hood and will likely have one on my 67 Malibu some day, but wouldnt feel right putting a SS tag on it. To each their own. I dont think you would be losing sales to a true car guy by having a disclaimer. Thats my nickles worth.

So be it. You're the one that sold one to a Corvette guy for $125. I don't remember mentioning on 'their' forum about reproduction window stickers. If they don't like it either then I say hurrah. I take it then that you are maybe repeating posts here on a Corvette forum? If so I'd like to see what's being said - have a link?

No Dale not repeating any posts anywhere else, that was quite some time ago I was on a Corvette forum page discussing the same. You are of course welcome to visit ant other sites and search for comments. I began this thread as I stated to get a feel about the reproduction of the window stickers. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about these items and all the other reproductions, clones, novelty items, etc that exist out there for our cars. At this point of time I don't see taking this thread any further. So again, I do appreciate all the feedback and thank everyone for their time and passion on this issue.
