My cousin had an Edelbrock Pro Flo XT intake and we traded straight up for my Vic Jr. a while back. I just started the swap today. You may remember that I blew the first engine up back in July (I think). When I did the swap to the next 5.3 we had some issues trying to get it to run. I wasn't sure if it was the engine, cam, what? Finally, after several weeks of swapping cams, messing with the tune, etc.. It ended up being a turbo that got wasted when metal must have passed through it when the engine blew.

I wanted to keep the "budget" goal so I took a chance on a set of On3 70's that are $324 shipped to your door. Anyways, my tune is better than ever before and have run as much as 30lbs of boost on this current 180,000 miles. I have it turned down to 15lbs now. Since everthing is running pefectly right now I figured this was a good time to swap the intakes.

For the swap, I had to move my catch can from center of my firewall over to the far left side. The Pro Flo sits back pretty far. I personally think the catch can looks better on the left side. I went ahead and decided to re do my passenger side down pipe to look more like the drivers side. The brackets that hold down the fuel rails on my Vic Jr. DO NOT work on the Pro Flo. I am going to fab some brackets up. The Pro Flo actually sits lower than my Vic Jr and Tall elbow so I had to cut the intake pipe to the throttle body and modify it. Since I am doing that anyways, I plan to rotate it and put the BOV turned to the drivers side instead of the passenger. This way the top radiator hose isn't in the way. I also had to drill two of the holes for my UMI throttle body to fit.

Here is a picture of where I am at so far. As you can see it isn't finished but you can see the Pro Flo is going to look pretty sick when I get it all in there and cleaned up.

More Pro Flo pictures. Got everything set up, wiring harness tucked in nice, new brackets fab'd up for the intake. The intake actually sits lower than the Vic JR. Not taller, so I will have to do something else with my fuel regulator set up and also the intake pipe to the throttle body.

Still working on the engine bay. Just trying to make the compartment as clean and efficient as I can. Today I managed to make a bracket to mount my coil packs together and mount them to the fire wall. I purchased some 6" threaded rod 1/4", some nylon lock nuts, and some steel spacers that I slid over the rod to keep the coils at a good and stable angle.. I also got some tabs to mount the rods to. All of this was found at Lowes. For spark plug wires, I purchased a set of stock wires for a 1998 Chevy Truck with a 350. They were a perfect fit at the stock length.

There is probably a better place to mount these but it was simple to run the wires and never touch the manifolds or down pipes. It was also the best place for me so I could still connect the sensor from the pcm to the coil packs. Only got one side done but I think it turned out pretty good. I like being able to see the valve cover without the coil packs on there much better.

Here you go:

It's been a while. I thought I would post a current shot with the New Pro FLo XT, all the hotside wrapped and sealed, the return fuel line with a heat shield sleeve, The cold side intake portion and blow off valve re positioned, Catch can re positioned and polished, firewall smoothed.

The power glide is in but the drive shaft yoke is too short. I also need to get a bracket to hook up the shifter, get the new Kirkey seats in and she is ready to go. One week until the track opens up. I think I can have it driving by Sunday.

I really like the way the pro flo looks and the down pipes and hot side all wrapped. That alone should keep my engine bay temps way down.

Thanks. I still have some items I am going hand paint silver so it off sets the engine a little. I also have to get another yoke for my drive shaft, get the seats in, etc.. Not a ton left. A couple days worth. I really likes the look of this intake. I hope it runs as well as it looks.

You should try and post some pictures of your set up. I would like to see it as I am sure many others would like.

I finished re painting the letters on the intake and the BOV silver. Tomorrow I am going to try my hand and carbon wrapping the brace that holds the radiator to the support.

So Del, what's the thinking behind using a glide? Was wondering if that would be an option for my Stang build, but it appears they are more costly.

I'm glad you asked. Most people think my car is going to slow down but I don't. You know me, I love trying to do things against the grain.

Last year the only reason my car wouldn't launch for **** was because:
1. I was still learning how to tune and obviously couldn't get the launch part of it figured out.
2. I was never able to build boost due to a couple reasons.
a. I have the original back drum brakes and pads, so basically no back brakes. It seems as though to really build boost you need to be able to use the brakes to build it and get it going and then the transbrake once you get some boost already built.
b. I had tons of leaks on my hotside, none of my hotside was wrapped and sealed (which doesn't allow it to hold heat and build boost)
c. I had too steep of a gear so though I was getting a mechanical advantage and reducing the load on the engine, it is exactly that load that I need to help build boost. I now have 3.42 gears.

So my thinking is with the 3.42's, new rear disc's (going on next week) and my tuning has greatly improved (I hope) I think I can build 10-12lbs of boost which will get the car moving pretty good. I always felt as though first gear was such a waste anyways with my twins. When the thing finally took off it hit the rev limiter so fast that the gear seemed worthless.

Finally, some of the fastest turbo cars are using a glide. I would like to think that I will get my car consistently in the 5's this year.

Some other items that will help.
I pulled the amp and sub woofers out. I still have the stereo and all speakers but the amp and box was worth over 60lbs. I am personally 45lbs lighter this year due to training for an Ironman race in Texas. I also removed my inner fender wells. I could never get them to look good. I dented them so bad and cut them up. When I pulled them that was 38lbs off the front. I replaced my front seats that were heavy as hell with some Kirkey seats. **** that saved damn near a 100lbs. I always raced on a full tank. This year I will race on a half a tank. That is another 56lbs. So I did take off a couple hundred lbs from last year. I am hoping that will allow the glide to survive. I haven't weighed the car yet but hoping that it is under 3600lbs with me in it. Oh yeah, I also pulled the meth injection kit and sold it. It was 18lbs and my IAT's were plenty low in my opinion without the meth.

The track opens next week. I hope I can have her ready. Waiting on my drive shaft. I plan to run it at 10lbs and try to work on my launch primarily. Nothing else matters if I can't get it to launch.
