While being down without a track for so many weeks I thought I would do some required (ignored) maintenance on the old wreck and found a couple things that needed immediate attention. Rubber motor mount on the driver side was in two pieces being held in place by the safety interlock but still allowing too much engine movement. That was fixed with new solid mounts. Also had to do some differential maintenance stuff (still a 12 bolt posi) so I decided I've been pushing my luck with the 7/16th wheel studs so they were changed to 1/2". I also serviced the Trans while down, ran the valves and did some carb tuning and made a few timing adjustments. So anyway I had to attend the new opening night at Irwindale and although it was as crowded as the winternations I got a couple passes in. The first was a timid shake down as the ring and pinion had been out so I soft footed it, ran a 6.52@106 then an hour later went back in the lanes and surprised myself with a new best of 1.41 60', a 4.088 330' and an 1/8th of 6.363@107.51. The most amuzing part of this is that this is still an old ISKY solid flat tappet cam that has been in this old turd for 6 years. It was a fun night.

Sounds like a good outing and a low 10 sec, high 9 sec 1/4 mile. That 1.41 60 is awesome!

I always use solid motor mounts and a poly trans mount. That was a good find. With a 1.41 60', it could have gotten real ugly.

Geez Dan,
Now I need to look for another 1/10 out of the old small block! Here's one from your first pass--the plate always causes problems with the camera.

Was fun, I can't remember that many spectators and cars at Irwindale. The track seemed pretty good to me.

Nice car Dan. Don't think I've ever seen that particular '66 in person at Irwindale, guess I was never there on the same night you were or I just didn't see it for one reason or another.
Last time I was out at Irwindale I didn't see too many of the cars that were regulars during the 2002(?)-2007 era when I used to hang out there every Thursday night.

Enrique, I only bring the car periodically but I watch nearly every thursday, both are enjoyable at my old age I look forward to saying hello at a track nite soon. Dan
Jimmi thanks for the encouragement. Once in a while we find something that helps. Solid Motor Mounts appear to have helped the car stiffen up some plus I had a cool can up front which I removed that freed up a little excessive weight right on the core support which I also suspect was impairing fuel flow. Congrats Dan. Keep tuning on 'er and see how quick you can go. Weather is going to get bad pretty soon as far as setting quick et's.

I can still drive this flat tappet old wreck wherever I want with a simple tire change and a boat load of gas money. I am pretty ok with where I am. Thanks for the words John.
