Hey Chevelle people! Does anybody know where to obtain, or can provide a complete, and I emphasise complete, set of installation instructions, to install a 200-4R, from a 1981 chevy malibu, into a 1964 chevelle with an unmodified 283 cu.in. 2bbl and a powerglide transmission? I am going to make this swap and also change rearend ratio to obtain an increase in fuel MPG. My car is a bone stock survivor and I will keep removed parts to go along with car should I ever sell it. Thank you in advance for your time and effort

Should be a pretty easy swap. I put one in my '67 a couple of years ago. The PG and 2004-R are the same length and the splines are the same on the driveshaft. The only slight challenge is the TV cable linkage. I suggest using a Bowtie Overdrives TV made EZ setup as it makes set up a snap. If you have a column shift PG, use a Kugal for the linkage as it makes it easy as well. Other than that, should take a few hours to complete.

don't think 200-R4 were made in 81, might want to check and see if you have a TH-200 non-OD. easier now than later.

The number one thing that you need to be scientific is with the tv cable geometry or it will burn out the transmission in a heartbeat. Transgo had a series of things to check for the longevity and shift qualities. Pay attention to this one detail. I used to be a transmission Tech (22 Yrs Experience) when these trannys were very popular.
