Default Totally confused with this SM 318 3 Speed

Recently I found out about the small Muncie 318 3 speed. I had one given to me and I am currently running it in my round track super truck. I have been doing all kind of searching for some more of these transmissions because they are super light compared to the Saginaw and all I need is high 1:1 gear.

Here is what I am confused about I have found 3 other transmissions and none of them are like the first one that I found. I have 2 what I believe are the older 318s because they have 16 spline output shafts and the input shafts are different. The trans I have I believe is from a 64 and later but I am not totally sure. The main case casting is 3854726 the tail housing casting is 3856722 and the side cover is 3849584.

The side cover is what I have yet to see one like mine. Mine is the style that has the bolt on post like saginaws, and every 318 that I have found has the clamp on style shifter posts. I would really like to find out what this transmission came in so I can try and find some more like it. I need the 27 spline output shafts so that I can use the same drive shaft with my muncie 4 speed.

i ask because the trans looks very similar to what i recall seeing in 50's chev pick-ups,
i could be wrong.......

Yes I have 2 with the rear mounts and one without. The one without and one of the ones with it has this style input shaft which from what I have found is the older style from like 56s and 57s. They also have these style shifters. The trans that I am trying to find out what it is has a smooth imput shaft without the cut out in it like the one in this picture.

Chris, i have one of these trans you are looking for. It has the input shaft without the cut in it, and the bolt on side linkage mounts. I actually removed it from a 64 malibu wagon, and have the same side cover # you stated.....3849584.

My main body casting is the same one used in early corvette....3824197.

And the tail 3 appears to be.....3793670 which i cannot get any info on, it has the trans mount built in.
