Dog dishes are popular know but back in the day they went in the trash with the air pump if it had one. My Dad took the caps off my Grandfathers '65 impala SS and did a swap with his chevelle SS396 plan full wheel covers, just before my grandfather traded it in on a new '66 impala SS396 [the dealer was pissed]. My Dads '66 SS396 car came with full wheel covers as the base cap. I have been told early [he orderd his in sep'65] cars got the full covers and as the year went on GM switched to the smaller cap as the base cover to save money. Today this might be tacky to run Impala SS spiners but back then it looked cooler then those poverty caps, but with that said I do like the look of the dog dish caps and think its cool to run any correct era cap/wheel. I must say I'm not a fan of the wire wheel covers and the fake mag covers. JMHO

When you figure out what configuration you want, Summit may have them cheaper.

What Luke said. It was very popular to add the cool spinner full wheel covers from other cars back in the day. Another popular look was plain steel wheels to emulate the "no hubcaps" look of the NHRA junior stockers that ran without caps. Whitewalls were also pretty popular on these cars up through about '67 or so. The '65 Impala SS caps mentioned above would look great on a '66 Chevelle w/ some narrow-stripe whitewalls.

Having said that, I am going to vote Corvette covers. Dog Dishes, Rallys, aftermarket wheels are all you see these days. Dare to be different.
