Default Re: Another new old guy

Dan - the dealership that ordered the 68 on speculation for me was Hinckley Chevrolet in Freeborn, MN. They have since moved to Wells, MN, about 8 miles away, (where I grew up and graduated from high school) and are still in business to this day. I have been in contact with Chuck Hinckley, the son of the original dealer from Freeborn to try to track down that 67 L79 4-door. He has informed me that no records exist from 1967 as they were all destroyed when they moved to Wells, MN. I also checked with the Chevrolet Archive Center in Detroit to see if they had any records and they told me that nothing exists from back in 1967. So I guess we are at a dead-end. Too bad, as I really would liked to have found that car.
Oh well, that's where my new toy comes in. It is a Fathom Blue 68 Malibu that will be cloned to the 1st car. This one is an "EE" color code (Fathom Blue) with black bench seat interior (identical to my original car), only with 327/pg/posi. Very unusual drive train combo. No engine when purchased, but I have since located an original ES code engine which translates to a 68 327/325 hp/manual trans motor. The automatic trans will be converted to a bench seat 4-speed using the correct non-console transmission hump, just purchased off eBay. (I've done my homework). The body is pretty much rust-free and will be restored to original. I still have the dog-dish hubcaps and Muncie shifter from my 1st Malibu, so they will be used on this car. At least SOME of my original car still exists up in the rafters of my shop! The restoration has been started so hopefully in a year or so it will again hit the streets of southern Minnesota!! Later-Augy
