Default posi id

What does the id ECB 32212 on a posi casting tell about what it would fit?
Thanks,
Charlie

Should be EDB32212. I don't have my list of numbers with me right now, but I think that's a 8.2 10 bolt Eaton Posi. I'll have to check my list later.

Freddie,
You are right on the EDP2212. The picture shows it to be a 12 bolt. The auction ends later today so if you could check your list sometime today I would greatly appreicate it.
Thanks,
Charlie

Yes, if it's a 12 bolt then it's a truck Eaton Posi. I don't remember if it's a 3 or 4 series, but it's not a car unit. The Eaton Posi for the car is EDB30140 for a 3 series and EDB30174 for a 4 series. I can't recall the number for the 2 series, but it's not that one. You don't want a truck posi for a car rear end. The truck case was weak because it had a large window in both sides instead of just one side like the car unit. I have seen many truck cases that were cracked.

Do you have a picture or a link to the auction?

I didn't have time to check my part number list, but I'm pretty sure that it's a 3 series truck posi. I see that it went for $177. That's a pretty good price if it was something that you needed, but it's not a car posi.

32088 is the 2 series car Eaton Posi, so that rules out all of the 12 bolt car units. It has to be a truck posi.

Freddie,
I did not buy it based on what you told me about it's strength. I have a 12 bolt housing out of a 72 el camino. I also have a 8.5 posi out of a 10 bolt. I read somewhere in an ad that the 8.5 10 bolt internals would work in a 12 bolt housing. Is this true?
Thanks,
Charlie

You can take the clutches and preload springs out of a 10 bolt posi and put in a 12 bolt posi case, but that's it. The 8.5 internal parts will not fit in a 12 bolt housing. The ring & pinion, differential and other parts are not the same. The only thing that you can do is use 12 bolt axles in a 8.5 rear end if you use a 30 spline differential and trim .062 off of the end of the axles.

Freddie,
Thanks. There is a lot of inaccurate information floating around out there.

Yes there is. And there are a lot of poor suckers who are getting screwed because of it.

Well I finally got a chance to look up those numbers, and it is a truck 3 series Eaton Posi. I know that the auction is already over, but I wanted to let you know what it was anyway.
