Default 66 Wagon tail light housing gaskets; Help Needed

TC members,

I've been trying to help get some new tail light housing gaskets made for the 66 El Caminos and wagons. There is a thread about this in the EC Forum. Several iterations of this gasket have already been made, but the design is unusual and requires a car body and tail light housing to test the fit of the new gasket.

Matt at Steele Rubber Products needs to find a local El Camino or wagon in the Denver, North Carolina area near Charlotte.

The gasket is very thick on one side and thin on the other, and the mounting bolts are off center, which makes it difficult to get the spacing equal all the way around when tightening. Matt needs a local car so that his technicians can do the final tweeking of the gasket design so it will fit evenly all the way around.

If you have a Chevelle wagon or El Camino and live in the area near Denver, N.C. PM or email me and I will get you in contact with Matt or email him directly and find out how you can help. Here is the email address:

Matt Agosta: magosta@steelerubber.com

Thanks,
Bruce

Matt at Steele Rubber Products found an El Camino and has checked the fit of the gaskets. I'm not sure if the latest gaskets are in stock, yet. I asked Matt when they will be in stock, and I'll let you know when I find out.

Would be great if they'd make the '64/'65 versions too.

Contact Matt about reproducing them. He has already done the 67 and 66 EC/Wagon gaskets. You will need an example to send to him and he will replace the originals with new reproductions. He likes to have a set of tail lights, also, and will return those to you. Matt is the President/CEO of Steele Rubber Products and has been great to work with. He will be reproducing the 65/66 floor shifter grommet for the non-console cars this winter. Here is his contact info.

I saw this Metro molded Tail Light Lens Gasket. You should try it. I heard from a colleague that they work good as well but I haven't really tried it yet.

This thread is about the gasket between the tail light housing and the body of the car not the gasket between the housing and the lens.
