What's the concensus for setting the lash on AFR BBC heads?
I saw a posting awhile back from Cstraub saying @ 1 turn for lash. I set mine at 1/2 turn and after reading other people having noisy valvetrain so I'm gonna go back and set to 1 turn.

The stud is 20 threads per inch so 1 turn is only .050" and half is only .025" which could end up being noisey. I would go back and redo them at 1 turn or .050" preload.

Morel or Crane hyd roller lifters, minimum 1 full turn preload. With alum heads ( and enough spring) you can run 1-1/4 turns.

Depends on the head used and the quality of aluminum. Some grow more then others.

My AFR's grow .007. Heck, that's slightly more than an 1/8 of a turn lost just to expansion.

Done a lot of research on hydraulic lifters (beyond basic BBC hot rodding). Info indicates hydraulic lifters are designed to be ran in the middle 1/3 of plunger travel. The Crane lifters we checked had .140" travel. Bottun line is mid point is .070 preload (hot). Mid 1/3 is .046" to .092" (cold). Adding in .006" expansion (alum heads) nets a setting from .052" - .098". Basically 1 full turn to 2 full turns on a 7/16"-20 stud. This debate will go one "forever". Bottum line, mine are set at one full turn right now. This is beating a dead horse - I am running Beehive springs and "absolutely" have not experienced valve float with either the .650 lift Comp cam that was in there prior or the .610 lift Crane in there now - and trust me, we have deliberately tried to find the limit. So, when I get a chance, these preload is going to get an added 1/2 turn to set it right in the middle of the plunger design (cold) which will net .064" preload hot on my motor. Can tell you I went from 1/2 turn (cold) to 1 full turn (cold) lifters got progressively quieter.
You need to do what you are comfortable with!

When you guys are saying they are noisy, how noisey are they? Is it just on cold start up?

Not a BB, But my old combo I ran Morel's 1 1/4 turns on 3/8 studs. It was still noisy kind of like a solid cam sound.
