Default Camshaft suggestions.

I am a truck guy. I normally search the 67-72 Chevy truck forum. But one of the forum visitors said there was a person named UDHarold at this sight would have a better suggestion for me. My truck is a 80 C10 LWB (Big Ten) I am in the process of purchasing all my components for my build. Below are items I am looking to get. And I am looking for a cam suggestion. I am torn between standard hydraulic flat tappet, or going with the retro-roller cam.

350 4-bolt main
Eagle rotating assebly PN. B13454E040 (9:66.1 Compression)
Dart Iron Eagle PN. 10211111, Intake 180cc/ exhaust 75cc
Edelbrock EPS intake.
Holley Street avenger 670 CFM Carb
Patriot headers PN. H8048-1, 1-5/8 Tubes 3" collector.

Ignition still up in the air? MSD most likely.

Any feedback would be gratefull thanks.

If you can afford it, a Hyd. roller would be the way to go.
If not, I have had very good luck with Comp. Cams. Xtreme Energy hydraulic cams from the 250 to the 268, in those body style trucks.
I have owned 5 of them. I am currently using the 256. I pulled the 268 a while back, and stuck it back on the shelf.
I really like the 256. It has a little lope at idle but the power brakes work well with a stock 1600rpm. stall. Mileage in the truck varies around 12 to 15 depending on how you drive it. And it pulls pretty hard till around 5600.
The 250 cam is just too mild, IMO. Good off idle torque, but runs out of steam too early.
The 262 is a touch rougher than the 256 but I like the way the 256 makes the truck, bark the tires going into and out of passing gear and the 262 won't do that. Not at 3000rpms., anyway.
The 268 is rougher yet, and needs a 1800 or 2200 stall. Mileage starts to suffer more, also. But it'll pull strong to 6000rpms., no problem.

PS.,a HEI dizzy and an Accel coil and cap is all I have ever used in this engine. And, I have not changed plugs in almost 8000 miles. Heat range is factory too. R45TS with a .040 gap.

I've had the 256,262 and 268 in this 355. This engine has almost 50,000 miles on it.

Welcom to T/C!

The only cams I haven't heard anything bad about are the voodoo cams. The 60102 is like a 262 cam. I say that is the one you want, right in the middle, if the 256 (60101) is tame and the 268 (60103) is wild.

How much vacuum does your engine make at idle?

You already have Dart heads/Eddy Intake/Holley Carb/ and Headers, go with the 268 Voodoo. It should make around 10-12" vacuum. You might need to upgrade your converter but IMHO its worth it. I know there are alot of GREAT custom cams out there, but I have never been impressed as much as with the off the shelf Voodoo cams, they just make great power plain and simple, thanks Harold.
